Overview Emergency Department Technician at Fairview Lakes Medical Center, Wyoming, MN Job Summary for Emergency Department Technician (ERT) As an ERT at Fairview Lakes Medical Center, you will assist the Emergency Department staff with various procedures, contribute to patient flow, transport, and comfort, and help maintain a neat and orderly unit. The emergency department at Lakes Medical Center is a designated Level IV trauma center, which means that we provide advanced trauma life support and can transfer patients to a higher level of care when needed. The emergency department in our hospital provides care for children and adults with immediate and critical concerns. Our emergency medicine physicians, nurses, and medical care teams are experienced treating patients with any type of injury or emergency medical need. If you should need transfer to another hospital, our health system offers interhospital critical care transport, which is the safest and most effective way to travel between hospitals. Assistance: Aid patients with ambulation and positioning. Communication: Inform RNs of any patient/family observations and concerns. Responsiveness: Promptly respond to patient call lights and requests. Patient Dignity: Show concern for patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality. Procedure Adaptations: Perform tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients' ages and developmental abilities. Specimen Handling: Acquire ordered specimens from patients and transport specimens and blood products. Procedure Accuracy: Demonstrate adherence to accurate procedures. Resuscitation Assistance: Assist in resuscitation efforts. Nurse Extender Role: Support nurses with patient care activities. Documentation: Patient Care Activities: Document patient care activities and procedures clearly, concisely, accurately, and timely on nursing records. Maintains Room/Unit and Supplies: Restocking: Restock room, supplies, and carts. Clean-Up: Assist with patient room clean-up between patients. Checklist Completion: Complete room and cart checklists. Quality Control: Perform quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment and complete quality control checklists. Qualifications Required Qualifications: License/Certification/Registration: Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers): Certification required upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment. OnTrack participants must obtain BLS certification upon completion of the OnTrack program. AND ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING: Current EMT or ERT certification: Required upon hire (does not need to be maintained throughout employment). Current Paramedic Certification: Required upon hire (does not need to be maintained throughout employment). Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry: Required upon hire (does not need to be maintained throughout employment). Note: Individuals who have completed a Nursing Assistant program and are scheduled to take the NA Registry exam will have 90 days post-hire to become active on the registry. Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program: Completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program. Six months of recent direct patient care experience: In an acute care, long-term care, or home care setting (roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, or Resident Assistant). Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program. LPN licensure upon hire: This licensure does not need to be maintained throughout employment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience: Previous Emergency Room experience: 1 or more years as an Emergency Room Scribe, paramedic, ERT, EMT, EDT, or ED EMS. Current CNA or NST experience: 1 or more years. License/Certification/Registration: Paramedic, EMT, ERT, LPN, CNA, PCA. Ideal Characteristics: High standard of creative prioritization skills and priority setting. Strong focus on customer service/patient service with every interaction. Excellent public relations and interpersonal/communication skills. Ability to work as an effective team member to deliver outstanding care. Competence in using appropriate computer applications. Ability to work independently and demonstrate critical thinking skills. Adaptability to change and ability to empower others in ongoing processes.
