In collaboration with the Pennsylvania College of Technology, we offer a 16-week paid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training program.
Program Highlights:
Paid Training: Earn $17.38 per hour while you learn. Career Advancement: Transition into a full-time EMT role with an increased hourly rate of $17.78 upon successful completion and certification. Sign-On Bonus: Full-time EMTs are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus with a one-year work commitment.What You’ll Do:
Hands-On Experience: Participate in field rotations, starting with observation and progressing to patient contact and treatment under the guidance of certified EMTs and Paramedics. Comprehensive Training: Prepare for the National Registry cognitive and psychomotor examinations while maintaining full-time employment with UPMC. Real-World Skills: Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, provide immediate care, and operate emergency vehicles.Requirements:
Age and License: Must be 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license. Commitment: A one-year work commitment to UPMC Susquehanna Regional Emergency Medical Services is required.Program Details:
Start Date: Classes begin January 14, 2025, and run through May 8, 2025. Location: Penn College’s Main Campus. Education Agreement: Tuition and other fees are covered by UPMC Susquehanna Regional Emergency Medical Services.Key Responsibilities:
Master EMT Knowledge: Demonstrate cognitive competency through quizzes and examinations. Hone Your Skills: Show psychomotor competency by completing practical stations and field performance. Field Experience: Successfully complete the required number of field contacts, objectives, and scheduled hours at Susquehanna Regional EMS. Emergency Response: Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, providing efficient and immediate care to critically injured or ill patients. Safety First: Select and use personal protective equipment appropriate to the level of anticipated hazard. Effective Communication: Interact and communicate with a diverse group of patients using excellent customer service skills. Patient Care: Perform patient assessments and provide basic life support for patients of all ages, initiating prehospital care according to established standards. Team Coordination: Communicate effectively with the communications center and fire/EMS units using UHF, VHF, and cellular telephones. Commitment to Quality: Commit to high-quality, safe work practices and encourage others to do the same. Identify and address processes or systems that could lead to inefficiencies or unsafe conditions. Accurate Documentation: Complete patient records and required state charts for all transports and transfers, including a detailed narrative of the patient’s condition. Vehicle Operation: Safely operate emergency vehicles, ambulances, wheelchair vans, and passenger vans under routine and emergency conditions, in accordance with state regulations.
