Job Summary:

The Employee Benefit Counselor acts as an extension of our clients’ Human Resources teams by providing inquiry assistance surrounding their benefit plans. They have a deep understanding of common benefit plan designs and can navigate the marketplace to resolve a variety of inquiries and issues.

Responsibilities:

Answers benefit questions and resolves issues as a primary point of contact for our client’s employees via phone or email inquiry. Examples of these inquiries include interpretations, explaining plan eligibility, guiding employees to appropriate carrier self-service resources (I.E finding care, cost of care, other tools available via the carrier portal,) understanding explanations of benefits, resolving claims issues, and more.

Builds and maintains a rapport with callers by assisting them in a courteous and professional manner.

Collects necessary information needed to effectively resolve inquiries and issues                                                    

Manages inquires with timely follow-up and updates involving interaction with employee, provider, carrier or other vendors.

Identifies trends and any emerging customer service issues and works to develop solutions to address potential problems and/or plan features

Works collaboratively with colleagues to deliver the best customer experience.

Documents and tracks all contacts, events, and outcomes with employee using appropriate systems and processes.

Determines and executes the best resolution to assist employees based on their needs or requests                                                                                                           

Requirements:

 Effective communication skills to interact with employees, physicians, and insurance carrier representatives, with an emphasis on ability to communicate both verbally and in writing

Proficient in Microsoft Office Products

Must be comfortable in an electronic environment with strong computer skills

Excellent people skills and ability to work well in a team environment       

Strong negotiation and collaboration skills.

In-depth knowledge of benefit programs and system designs

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Current Property & Casualty or Health & Life Insurance License                                                                                                     

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in business or related field of study OR Equivalent combination of experience and education

Minimum 3 years of concierge-oriented customer service experience in an insurance environment.

Physical Demands:

Long periods in a seated position

Occasional travel required to conduct client visits
