I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Facilitates the entry of new hires (as defined above) into the UMass Memorial Health (UMMH) and/or UMass Chan Medical School (UMCMS) and Research Labs and coordinates the retrieval of information and the delivery of the preplacement assessment process in accordance with defined job specific protocols.
2. Assists new hires and current employees in understanding what is needed, options available to them, resources, and the results of all testing.
3. Provides education along the continuum of the process to the new hires and to existing employees.
4. Develops concise status updates to all stakeholders in a manner that protects the patient/employee’s HIPAA rights.
5. Develops relationships with all key stakeholders for both UMMH and UMCMS as well as affiliate entities.
6. Assists with tracking metrics and quality indicators for all processes involved.
7. Provides exposure surveillance for air-borne and blood-borne pathogens for employees. Screens employee population, as indicated, for air-borne and blood-borne pathogen exposures. Provides surveillance of employees illnesses as indicated by Center of Disease Control (CDC).
8. Organizes screening and surveillance data for entry according to JCHAO, OSHA, CDC, etc., guidelines and documents such in computer system. Utilizes nursing process to comprehensively assess the patients physical and psychological status.
9. Provides access to resources such as Getchell TB clinic, Employee Assistance Program, Free Care Providers and links to support services.
10. Conducts education related to occupational illnesses and injuries to employees according to OSHA guidelines as required or directed.
11. Triages employee injuries and illnesses. Provides first aide and assists Nurse Practitioner, Physician or others in procedures as requested.
12. Conducts a comprehensive immunization program for employees through Immunization Walk-in Clinics, Immunization Fairs and periodic unit-based site visits. Administers immunizations, vaccines, PPD’s and other medications as ordered by Nurse Practitioner or Physician. Draws blood specimens as appropriate.
13. May serve as liaison between Employee Health Services and Infection Control Department.
14. May coordinate special group pre-placement medical clearance process such as summer internship program, etc.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Current Massachusetts state licensure.
2. Graduate from accredited school of nursing.
Preferred:
1. Bachelor's degree.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Minimum of two years’ of up to date and progressively responsible nursing experience in Employee Health, Occupational Health, Infection Control or related field.
2. Skilled with utilization of EMR and other software.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred:
1. Excellent phlebotomy skills.
2. Experience in caring for employees with blood borne pathogen exposures.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
