Employment Tax Analyst

Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of Payroll Services, the tax analyst is responsible for all employment taxes for the university. This includes coordinating the entire NRA process, working with payroll on tax reconciliations, assisting departments with employment tax questions, identifying and developing training for employment tax education, identifying and developing processes for all taxable fringe benefits, partnering to test all new payroll taxes, assisting with IRS and other agency audits. Partner with HR/Payroll team to identify any tax issues, and work collaboratively to resolve. The tax analyst will be the primary advisor for nonresident alien taxation. They will provide guidance to international employees creating and maintaining their glacier records and appropriate tax forms including W4, W9, W8BEN, 8233, etc.
Job Responsibilities Include:
+ Coordinate all Nonresident Alien tax processes. Oversee the maintenance of the Glacier system for international employees ensuring tax residency determinations and treaty benefits are accurately applied. Work with IT to develop more efficient processes for NRA’s, NRA Counseling, delivering NRA tax information sessions in Feb-Mar. Identify, develop, and deliver NRA training to all Academic areas on campus. Also includes reviewing NRA payments through Procurement/Accounts Payable for accurate withholding and reporting. Manage the 1042s process. Advise international employees on tax residency, treaty eligibility, withholding requirements, and compliance with regulations. Serve as the primary point of contact for NRA inquiries, providing clear, customer-focused guidance to employees and departments.
+ Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations in the payroll system. Partner with ADP to ensure accurate and timely payroll tax reporting and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations within the US. Review weekly edits for taxation issues and resolve promptly. Determine if there are system issues that need to be resolved as a result of the weekly edit information. Identify and add additional edits as necessary to find tax problems promptly. Assists employees with questions and/or problems regarding their pay related to tax issues. Runs and reconciles tax reports every payroll and compares to ADP tax invoice summaries. Maintain state unemployment rates and ensure rates are updated timely. Investigate, resolve, and respond to tax authority notices and correspondence in a timely manner.
+ Maintain Tax compliance processes – Research the University’s employment tax obligations for individuals working at off campus locations. Maintain, register, and set up withholding accounts as needed based on employee work locations utilizing established University processes and policies. Develop and deliver training as necessary for all departments on campus. Assist with any IRS or other Agency audits. Assist with the Foundation 990 filings by providing appropriate Payroll information.
+ Review all taxable fringe benefits. Work with Director of Payroll and Director of Benefits to establish appropriate processes to assure proper taxation. Develop and document processes for all employment taxes. Work with Finance as needed on various tax questions.
+ Work with Payroll Team on any new initiatives for possible tax impact. Work with Benefits to review any new employee benefits to assure proper taxation. Review Vertex updates monthly and work with payroll and IT to test and implement promptly. Identify and work with Payroll and IT to resolve any system taxation issues to resolve promptly. Work with the Director of Payroll to identify and modify processes as needed to address regulatory changes.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related field
+ Minimum of 1 year of related work experience
+ Understanding of Payroll and employment taxes
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to customer service
+ Advanced Microsoft Office experience
*An equivalent combination of education and experience may also satisfy the degree requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience in Payroll and Employment Taxes
+ Experience on an ERP system highly desirable (Oracle, People Soft, Banner)
+ Knowledge of Nonresident Alien taxation a plus

The target salary range is $44,592 to $59,085 commensurate with the selected candidate’s education and experience while considering internal equity.
