What is an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)?
The primary focus of the EMT is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation, and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. An EMT performs interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance and is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
About the Program:
The eligible candidate will be hired as a full-time employee and compensated a training wage while in attendance at EMT Academy, sponsored by AMR. The academy is a rigorous four-week program which qualifies the employee to take the National Registry of EMT exam. Upon successful completion of the National Registry EMT exam, the employee can then apply for an Arizona State EMCT-EMT Basic Certification. There is no cost for the class and all books, tuition, fees, and uniforms will be paid by AMR. Upon successful completion of the class, all tests and state certification, the employee will be transferred to an EMT position.
Program at Arizona Academy of Emergency Medicine begins on January 10, 2022 and runs through March 18, 2022. Program at Mesa Community College begins on January 17, 2022 and runs through March 25, 2022. Employees will attend classes in person at the respective locations 3-4 days a week, 5-6 hours a day in addition to clinical days.

Be at least 18 years oldHave a HS diploma or GEDHave a valid Driver License Have all required immunizations and provide supporting documentation of such.Successfully complete the pre-employment screening which includes motor vehicle and criminal background checks, drug testing and a physical agility testMeet admissions requirements to EMS ProgramWhat happens after passing the course?
After successful completion of the course, the employee will be eligible to take a written and skills test through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). Once certified by the NREMT, the employee will then submit the required documentation to the state to obtain their Arizona EMCT-EMT Basic certification.
Upon receipt of the State of Arizona EMCT-EMT Basic certification, the employee will receive their full-time position assignment within the AMR Phoenix business unit. They will also qualify for benefits including:
