Job Summary
Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage, and treatment, using BSW EMS Medical Director guidelines. Assess illness or injury to prioritize care for safe helicopter transport to the right facility. Ensure safety is the highest priority during transport.
Essential Functions of the Role
Provides critical care interventions within scope of practice from initial contact until patient care is transferred to the accepting medical facility.Performs critical lifesaving care during 9-1-1 calls and inter-facility transports.Evaluates patient status to monitor intervention effectiveness. Revises treatment plans promptly and effectively as needed during air transport.Maintains Flight Paramedic proficiency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing Paramedic education and clinical experiences.Works as a member of the critical care flight team. Provides patient care before and during the flight with the medical team on board the aircraft.Functions as a medical flight team member by attending pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings for patient transports.Assists in pre-mission liftoff checklist and assists pilot as requested, i.e. radio, navigational, and visual observation activities.Conducts daily/shift aircraft checklists to ensure all equipment is operational and ready for transports.Key Success Factors
Demonstrates high critical thinking and reasoning skills. Shows exceptional attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Requires ability to prioritize and multi-task.Knowledge of medical and professional ethics and patient privacy rights.Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly, both verbally and in writing.Observe changes in patients' medical conditions and communicate them to the medical flight team.Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of constituencies.Critical care/911 experience within last five years.Flight experience highly preferred.General computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft office, information security, electronic medical documentation, and email.Belonging Statement
