EMT Ground Transport

Job Description:

The Ground EMT fulfills an important role within Intermountain Health and the communities we serve and live in. As first responders to medical emergencies, our communities rely on the Ground EMT’s professional knowledge and skills. Responding to both emergent and non-emergent patients for transport, the Ground EMT is an integral part of the emergency medical system.

Job Details

Respond to medical emergencies and deliver patient care, support, and evaluation in a pre-hospital setting, such as on scene and during transport to the hospital.Respond to non-emergent patients needing safe transport between hospitals, care facilities, and their homes.Comply with all state EMS rules and regulations.Follow all patient care guidelines, policies, procedures, medical direction, and education requirements.Be able to quickly and accurately assess the patient, determine the proper emergency care, and administer treatment within the Ground EMT scope of practice.Write accurate and detailed patient care reports.Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPPA regulations.Ensure ambulance and equipment are clean and prepared for patient transports, including maintaining par levels of inventory.Follow proper infection control procedures.Safely operate ground ambulances following state and local laws and regulations and in accordance with training, policies, and procedures.Work varied shifts and be available to cover call shifts.Attend employee staff meetings.Fulfill required assigned education and attend required training.Maintain required credentials.Drive personal or company vehicles whenever and wherever business needs necessitate.Other duties as assigned.

​Minimum Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.Current state EMT certification.Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) completionAbility to lift 75 lbsTwo years a licensed driver with insurable driving recordAbility to communicate with a variety of people in highly stressful situations

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a clinical role (EMT, CNA, Medic, paramedic)Experience in a healthcare settingComputer literacy in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.

Physical Requirements:

 Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$18.29 - $22.88
