POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, prepares procedure rooms, manages equipment, and assists the Physician during endoscopic procedures.  Assists with patient care pre and post procedure as well as assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment. This unit provides 24-hour coverage. Clinical Cross-campus (MMH and RGH) on-call is required Monday through Friday after 11:00 p.m (2300) weekends and holidays. Reports to the MMH Nurse Manager.

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Certification in Sterile Processing or Flexible Endoscopy Reprocessing through a nationally accredited central service organization such as, CBSPD oe IAHCSMM is required within two years of  hire. (After January 2016). Annually obtain the mandatory number of Continuing Education units (CEUs).
 
 
COMPETENCIES: Basic computer skills in the use of Microsoft Windows-based WORD, EXCEL and OUTLOOK software programs. Must be able to read and communicate effectively using the English language. Employee must have access to reliable transportation to travel between multiple work sites; and travel is required in order to perform essential duties.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotes positive patient outcomes. Demonstrates ability to communicate to the RN or LPN any observed changes in patient status and responses.  Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations In collaboration with RN, participates in activities to accomplish efficient room turnover including, cleaning of furniture, removal of used equipment and supplies. Demonstrates ability to assist Physician in the performance of all endoscopic procedures under the direction of an RN as evidenced by knowledge of equipment used during procedures, appropriate positioning techniques, and knowledge of G.I. anatomy.  Participates in preparing, recovering, and discharging the patient as directed by an RN. Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate cleaning techniques for each instrument, including adherence to SGA and OSHA standards; tests and troubleshoots equipment.
