ENDOSCOPY SCRUB TECH - Part Time
The starting rate for this position is:$20.92/hr Rate of pay displayed reflects the beginning of the pay scale. Position Summary: Per the standards of the Association of Surgical Technologist surgical technologist work under the direct supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. The ST is responsible for ensuring the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The ST handles instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. The technologist has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Duties of the technologist include, but are not limited to: checking supplies and equipment needed for a procedure; scrubs, gowns and gloves self, surgeon and assistants; performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operating and before the incision is closed; assists in draping the sterile field; passes instruments to the surgeon during the procedure; maintains the highest standard of sterile technique; assists with terminal cleaning of room; cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization and assist in prepping the surgical suite for the next patient. The ST is also responsible for working with new employees and students and help train them in the ST role. The ST is not permitted to function in the circulating nurse roll, first assistant roll and is restricted from administering medications and completing patient records. Position Requirements: Trade or Technical School (Certificate or Diploma) CST Certified BLS mandatory within three months of hire Position Specific Competencies: + Locates emergency devices (i.e. oxygen and gas shut off valves, fire alarms, fire evacuation doors? And is able to verbalize role during emergency situations (i.e. code red, code blue, code strong and disaster + Verbalizes knowledge and demonstrates safe operation of operating room equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendations and hospital policy. Reports all malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate individuals. + Maintains clinical competency checklist and mandatory certifications. + Provides a safe environment for the patient by verifying, with the surgical team, the operative patient and surgical site. + Demonstrates knowledge of AORN standards regarding aseptic technique, prepping the patient and surgical site + Follows hospital policy by appropriately labeling all medications on the sterile field. + Demonstrates proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when caring for infectious patients and/or when there is a potential for exposure. + Maintains professional communication with ancillary departments and co workers. + Demonstrates proper hand washing technique and follows hospital policy. + Promotes and maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and staff. + Attends at least 50% of monthly staff meetings and schedules in-services and/or reviews/initials available meeting minutes. + Performs other duties as directed by the OR Clinical Leader, Perioperative Clinical Supervisor and/or Director of Perioperative Services.
