Endoscopy Technician – Full Time (40 hrs/week)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (Alternating Days)
Call Requirement: Weekday and Weekend Call

Summary

The Endoscopy Technician supports quality patient care under the direct, on-site supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or physician. This role performs a variety of direct and indirect clinical tasks and technical skills within a diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterology/endoscopy setting. The technician adheres to department policies, demonstrates competency in required tasks, and may perform additional duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in collecting data to support patient assessments, including vital signs.

Process specimens according to established procedures.

Prepare patients for flexible sigmoidoscopy, including administration of Fleets or tap water enemas.

Provide general documentation and clerical support (CIS computer use, phone communication, filing, charge processing).

Assist RN and physician during patient care activities and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.

Maintain endoscopy room supplies and equipment, including ordering, restocking, cleaning, and disinfecting scopes, rooms, and equipment.

Provide endoscopy room turnover and technical support.

Respond to emergency situations as directed by RN and/or physician.

Maintain a safe environment, follow all regulatory and organizational standards, and participate in ongoing education and performance improvement activities.

Demonstrate knowledge of scope-of-practice requirements and uphold ethical, legal, and professional standards.

Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned by the Unit Manager.

Required Work Experience

None required.

Preferred Work Experience

6 months to 1 year in a hospital setting.

Skills & Competencies

Demonstrated competency in reading and mathematics (verified through aptitude testing).

Ability to follow detailed instructions, prioritize multiple tasks, and work effectively with others.

Completion of the organization’s orientation program.

Moderate physical strength with good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.

Intact or corrected vision and hearing.

Ability to maintain continuous mental and visual attention.

Independent thinking skills and the ability to perform under stressful or emergency conditions.
