SUMMARY

Reporting to the General Manager, the Energy Engineer’s main responsibilities will include the management and implementation of a portfolio-wide Energy Management Plan (EMP) for all account regions. The candidate will work closely with Regional Directors, Operation Managers, Critical Environment/Maintenance team leads, Building Management Centre, Project Specialists, Finance, Contractors, Consultants, and the Client.  The candidate will require technical expertise in the following areas:

Energy markets and utility rate structures Building Automation Systems Energy analytics Building operations Building conservation and demand management Conducting building energy assessment and energy efficiency measure development Ability to manage programs from concept inception to implementation

 KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Energy Audits In conjunction with operating personnel (Operation Managers, CE/Maintenance Team leads, etc.) and through benchmarking analyses, identify and prioritize buildings requiring energy audits. Work with, and continue to develop, screening tools to identify energy saving opportunities. Conduct energy analysis of utility and meter data, combined with site assessment of energy usage to determine energy end-use; provide assessment of existing systems, development of building-specific energy efficiency measures and associated savings calculations. Operational Efficiency Implement efficiency measures involving the following specific responsibilities: energy efficiency program management including management of contractors and staff; develop budget and reports. Assist in development and oversight of operational efficiency measures, including retro-commissioning; analysis and efficiency measure development from MT&R strategies. Work with Operation Managers and on-site technical staff to drive implementation of operational (low/no cost) energy measures. Provide technical review and assessment of external consultant savings calculation methodology as well as technical and economic feasibilities and make recommendations. Assist in the measurement and verification of energy savings measures. Training/ Expertise Coordinate training/energy awareness initiatives for staff on relevant energy topics. Act as a resource to management and field staff in regard to energy management.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

University degree in Mechanical Engineering and Professional Engineer Designation with minimum 5 years’ experience in the energy management, with a thorough background in utility markets, building optimization/controls, and building systems. Project Management experience related to the development and implementation of energy retrofits or programs. Experience in conducting Measurement and Verification per IPMVP an asset. Sound knowledge of economic analysis tools (Life-cycle cost analysis, ROI, NPV, payback). Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with people across multi-disciplines to ensure program adoption and implementation. Excellent organizational and planning skills. Detail-oriented, professional and approachable. Proficiency in report writing and in using MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access) Thorough understanding of energy markets and utility rate structures Energy analytics Strong background in building operations and optimization Development of building conservation and demand management plans Conducting building energy assessment and energy efficiency measure development Ability to manage programs from concept inception to implementation Proficiency in excel and other Microsoft applications Strong written, oral, and presentation skills Bilingual proficiency is an asset
