POSITION SCOPE – Green Generation (GreenGen) is seeking to add a team-oriented professional based in Asia to help coordinate and manage our fast-growing business in the region (Japan, China, Korea, and others). Based in Tokyo (preferred), Hong Kong, or Shanghai, our Energy Efficiency Solutions Engineer position is suited to a person with at least 7 years of relevant work experience, in-depth knowledge of office, retail, hospitality, logistics, and leisure facilities and with substantial practical experience in reducing a buildings’ energy consumption.

 

This individual will conduct assessments of building system performance, analyze utility data, and develop and help to execute energy efficiency retrofit solutions to achieve the optimal balance of reduced utility consumption, occupant comfort, and financial results. You will serve as the lead on energy and mechanical matters to project implementation teams, review specifications, drawings, construction documents, project scopes, and cost estimates, and assist in the day-to-day project management of our team and partners to ensure timely and correct implementation of solutions.

 

WORK AUTHORIZATION – Applicants must be a citizen of or have permanent right to work in either Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, or China. For qualified candidates, GreenGen may facilitate the work visa sponsorship process.

 

WHAT WE NEED

Bachelors level degree at minimum in a relevant field – Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Physics; Building Science – and at least 7 years of directly related experience Ability to converse and write professionally in both Japanese and English is mandatory; written and verbal fluency in at least one other Asian language (such as Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese) is preferred. It is essential that candidate be able to discuss and explain highly technical matters fluently in Japanese and English. Licensed Equipment Architect or Fire Protection Engineer is preferred (設備建築士) Experience with BS16247 EN or ASHRAE 90.1 Standard (ISO 50001 and 14001 are a plus) Advanced knowledge of energy efficiency and building performance BREEAM Assessor, LEED AP, or LCEA is a plus; experience with HQE or DGNB useful Proficiency with Excel is essential Experience analyzing the potential of solar PV renewable

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Provide expert judgment and analyses for conceptual engineering design to ensure owner's requirements are documented, optimize first cost, and improve energy and water efficiency Review and verify third-party energy savings calculations and guide team member best practices for energy savings technologies, including lighting, HVAC, fans, pumps, air compression, and industrial process use Assess or propose commercial-scale renewable energy and CHP systems, supply-side energy procurement strategies, and demand-response technologies Plan and deliver presentations at meetings and training events for trade allies and customers, clients, and others Lead and direct the work of consulting external engineers and equipment suppliers Write and install energy management routines for building management systems Perform on-site assessments of client facilities throughout Asia to identify energy saving opportunities Analyze existing building systems and collect data on building operation, HVAC, electrical, lighting, controls, and operations to determine energy usage and efficiency Establish return-based priorities for building renovations Assess feasibility and help engineer the implementation of efficiency solutions Attend project meetings with owners, designers, property managers, and contractors Establish and maintain on-site contact with building facilities personnel Perform travel-planning as necessary to complete site visits and attend conferences Oversight of project management and implementation across Asia Perform other duties as assigned

LOCATION – Asia (Remote)

Residents of all Asian countries will be considered. This position will work remotely from a home/shared office. Tokyo is the preferred remote working location for candidates, but other locations will be considered. The candidate must also be eligible to travel in Asia without special restrictions.

TRAVEL – GreenGen Asia is based in Tokyo and travel to a variety of client locations within Asia, and occasional travel to other regions will be required for this role for up to 30% of the year in increments of one week or less. Long-term engagements at a single client location are not expected.
