Job Purpose
The Energy Management Support Specialist will contribute to the administration, optimization, and support of the Energy Management team trading and portfolio management activities, particularly in the West region. This role will support the management of our asset merchant exposure and portfolio through analysis, administration, contract management, and other components that are mission-critical in a way that aligns with business processes, and meets the strategic needs of the organization. This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors to provide both technical and functional expertise.
Key Accountabilities
Support REC portfolio management. Key areas of focus include registry management, contract execution, counterparty invoicing, Green-E annual attestations, PPA obligation management, and working with Portfolio Finance on distributions spreadsheets, among other key tasks. Understanding and supporting the optimization of this portfolio will be a critical part of this role.Engage in the management of the Resource Adequacy portfolio. Track contractual and CAISO deadlines, create annual and monthly supply plans, monitor broker and ISO updates for program changes and disseminate information to appropriate teamsSupport Energy Management and Power Markets to collaborate on historical analysis and price/growth trends, prepare slides for cross-departmental presentationsManage team consulting/analytics subscriptions including but not limited to ZE, YES, Genscape, etc.Support West traders from both and analytics and administrative perspective, assist in monitoring notional value limits and understand trade settlements in order to identify discrepanciesCollaborate on creative ways to consolidate and disseminate fundamental trading data in a concise and automated wayManage Karbone, EnergyGPS, WoodMac contracts and others as applicableLearn best practices on energy management/transactional decisions.Make sound decisions on the approach to REC portfolio management regarding contract lifecycle and tracking of the Pattern fleet.Track significant settlement charge codes against trader P&L as applicableMaintain comprehensive documentation for the REC portfolio, including deadlines, procedures, login access information, and more.Identify and recommend areas for improvement to enhance performance, efficiency, and compliance.Provide subject matter expertise (SME) to customers and stakeholders during project phases such as requirements gathering, system testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and post-go-live support.Manage the application side of large-scale projects, ensuring systems are prepared for high-demand periods and aligned with evolving business needs. QualificationsExperience/Qualifications/Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.1-3 years of experience in operations of the energy industry, preferably renewables energy asset, strong preferred but not required.Additional Requirements
Prior experience in the energy industry, preferably in renewables.Ability to analyze and synthesize data quickly to make smart, risk averse business decisions.Ability to interpret contracts and incorporate the terms into commercial and financial analysis to make decisionsStrong work ethic and willingness to take on tasks that benefit the team even if they do not explicitly fall within the job descriptionPreferred Technical Skills
Understanding power market operations and wind energy operations; ability to manage many projects simultaneously and have strong organization and Microsoft Office skills in order to perform ad hoc analysis on a regular basis, with an ability to assess future needs to extend analysis into long term use
The expected starting pay range for this role is $80,000 - $108,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
