Job Title: GED Engine Test Technician
Salary: £30,200 to £37,700 (depending on experience)
Location: Stafford, UK

Role purpose and overview:

As part of the Large Power Systems Division (LPSD), Global Engine Development (GED) Stafford delivers engine system and component testing programmes for its customers on a range of products. GED Stafford is a world-class large engine development facility supporting the division in the development of new and existing products. The GED Test Engineering Team have responsibility for the build, instrumentation, testing and assessment of large diesel and gas fuelled engines up to 2183kW, for both current product improvement and new product introduction projects (including performance, emissions, verification and validation testing).
An Engine Test Technician position is required within the GED Test Engineering team to carry out research & development work on Perkins 5000 and 4000 series engines.
Job Summary
Accountable for the delivery of customer engine build and test requirements
Pre-rigging engines into modified gensets in preparation for test cell installation
Instrumentation to engineering’s request including some fabrication work for boost, coolant and fuelling systems
Data measurement, collection, provision of results, use of computerised test bed controls and data acquisition
Assume ownership of test bed data quality, assist engineers in test methodology and interpretation of result

Attractive working pattern: Monday to Thursday 6:45am – 4:30pm with non-working day on Friday

Skills:
Hands on Technical Knowledge:
A demonstrated knowledge of working on diesel or gas engine test programs
Awareness of low voltage electrical systems associated with genset applications
Working Safely:
The ability to work to engineer’s instructions and carry out a range of test work, including fitting prototype parts to an engine and/or record and produce quality data is fundamental.
Focus on Quality:
Attention to detail with an aptitude to deliver first class quality and to strive for continuous improvement

Aptitude and ability to absorb and learn new technologies continuously
Effective Communication:
Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey/absorb technical information and to respond to complex situations

Proficient user of computer applications including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Qualifications:
City Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in an automotive mechanical subject
Equivalent qualifications accepted (IMechE accreditation) or higher (HNC/HND/B.Eng.)
Time served technicians / operatives considered
Preferable Experience:
Mechanical/electrical experience on diesel engines, stripping & rebuilding, along with a good automotive or off-highway mechanical background desirable
Instrumentation experience including thermocouples, pressure transducers, flowmeters, emissions analysers, etc
A good knowledge of engine test systems (DSG, Cadet, PUMA) and test schedule writing
Exposure to ECU controller software packages.
Modification of engine electrical harnesses for a test cell environment
