**The Opportunity**
This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including Chemistry, Electrolytes, Hematology, Blood Gases, Coagulation, Endocrinology, Cardiac Markers, Neurology, and Informatics. As a Senior Engineer in Product Engineering, you will have the chance to play a key role in improving product performance by building expertise on the product’s fluidic, chemical, and mechanical systems.
**What You’ll Do**
+ Support continuous improvement by leading design change projects that impact product quality, cost, and supply to the customer.
+ Build and share expertise in the cartridge design for the on-market products. Translate expertise from on market products into supporting new products to market launch.
+ Gather and analyze data from product measurements and inline process measurements to investigate challenging problems and provide recommendations for technically supported strategies.
+ Create and execute efficient experimental strategies using DOE methods to identify potential design improvements.
+ Independently execute assigned tasks by applying standard engineering theories, concepts, and techniques.
+ Document results of experiments in a manner consistent with the Quality System.
+ Lead cross-functional team meetings to share information and support key strategic projects.
+ Communicate and present progress updates on key projects for management review.
+ May provide supervision and mentorship to junior staff.
+ Keep up to date with the latest technical developments in related areas, assess and integrate appropriate changes to work practices.
**Shift:**
+ Monday to Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm EST
**Required Qualifications**
+ A bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a desired 5+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience. A post-graduate education / degree is desired and may contribute towards the desired years of experience.
+ Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills.
+ Ability to design experiments, analyze and interpret data, document conclusions.
+ Analytical skills, creativity and innovative approach to problem solving.
+ Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members, lead cross-functional teams and also to work independently.
+ Ability to convey communications clearly, concisely, and accurately; both verbal and written.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Five plus years related work experience in an engineering role.
+ Experience in immunoassay products.
+ Background in CAPA, design change processes, project management and quality verifications in a medical device setting.
+ Willingness to work in labs, manufacturing areas, and office environments.
+ Very strong investigational skills, drive to understand and solve problems.
+ Very strong technical writing skills.
+ Propensity for continuous learning and experimentation.
+ Proficiency with JMP, PASS or Minitab software used for statistical plans/rationale.
