Engineer, Supplier Development & Corporate Sustainability

 

The Engineer, Supplier Development & Corporate Sustainability position is in our Carrollton, TX facility. This is a hybrid role.

 

Position Summary:  The primary responsibility of the Supplier Development & Corporate Sustainability Engineer is to work closely with stakeholders (e.g. Materials, Operations, Purchasing, Quality) to manage and develop relationships with new suppliers. This individual will develop performance improvement plans, and works with internal and external stakeholders to drive closure of actions to achieve the performance targets. This role will also assist Purchasing with supplier selection, new program launch support, and other supplier support activities.

 

The secondary responsibility of the Supplier Development & Corporate Sustainability Engineer is to lead the company’s (BSI North America) Scope 3 of our SBT (Science Based Targets) activities and achieve the goals on environmental sustainability.

 

 

Description of Essential Job Functions: Leads supplier assessment, development, and performance improvement activities. Lead visits at key supplier sites to diagnose performance issues and coordinate supplier audits and improvement activities including kaizen events, process improvements, and quality system improvements. Support the collection and maintenance of supplier performance metrics. Collect and evaluate supplier quality data to identify process improvement and risk mitigation opportunities at key supplier sites. Support 4Front engineers with performing or lead root cause analysis on purchased part or product quality issues and work issue through containment phase of corrective action process. Partner with Operations, Purchasing, and Quality stakeholders to create supplier development plans for selected critical suppliers focused on quality, delivery, capacity, and supplier process capability. Drive execution of supplier performance improvement plans and interface with internal and external partners to collaboratively pursue solutions and closure of action plans. Provide regular feedback to relevant groups on progress with suppliers and internal team improvement plans, conduct supplier audits, review and update supplier scorecards, and handle supplier business review. Recommend suppliers for qualification and/or disqualification based upon quality performance.

 

Assist Purchasing with supplier selection, new program launch support, and other supplier support activities. Assist Purchasing in gathering all necessary supplier component, packaging, tooling and formal quotes for new program RFQs, supplier selection, and commodity strategies. Coordinate, manage, and communicate all pre-SOP 4Front deliverables and activities necessary to insure a successful new program launch with suppliers. Support new program APQP, new product/process validation, design reviews, and supplier safe launch activities. Organize pre-assessments of new suppliers with localization activities. Support VA/VE activities at 4Front manufacturing sites as well as VA/VEs conducted at supplier locations.

 

Lead North America Sustainability and Social Responsibility (SSR) activities. Develop strategic plans to achieve Assa Abloy and 4Front specific expectations for meeting long-term goals related to SSR to include: Supplier Assurance & Quality Renewable Energy and Carbon Neutrality (SBT) Conflict Minerals, Chemical Management, and Responsible Care Work with department and functional heads to implement actions to achieve short-term and long-term strategic plans, tactical objectives, and initiatives. Gather data and information to ensure timely completion of all Assa Abloy and 4Front reporting requirements related to SBT Scope 3. Work with Executives, Human Resources, and Sales & Marketing functions to establish both internal and external communications on the company’s commitment and progress toward strategic SBT initiatives. Develop metrics to measure, monitor, and report on the progress toward Corporate SBT goals and objectives.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or Engineering required.  Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, Social Responsibility or other relevant education and/or experience in SBT is a plus 5-8+ years of progressively responsible experience in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, or similar field, preferably within a mid to high volume a manufacturing, assembly, distribution center, or other industrial environment. Strong background and experience in supplier quality and/or development. Experience managing ISO14001 or other internationally recognized standards is a plus.

 

Computer Skills

Ability to use a personal computer utilizing spreadsheet and word processing software applications, databases, automated systems, and MRP related software to accomplish work preferred. Advanced/Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint preferred.

 

Certificates, Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

ASCM Certified Supply Chain Professional certification (CSCP), ASCM Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR-P) Endorsement, ISM Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), or related certification is a plus.

 

 

Other Qualifications, Experience, or Requirements:

Must be willing to travel up to 50% in the field for supplier development and support. Requires the ability to use a variety of office/production related equipment such as a calculator, telephone, photocopier, computer printer, and precision measuring instrument. Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle while carefully observing all traffic rules and regulations. Work beyond the traditional 40 hours per week may be required as workload or projects dictate, including weekends and holidays.
