Position Summary

This position supports process development, specifications, experimental design and engineering controls for chemical products, as well as working on the manufacturing of batches, product in the lab, and at pilot scale, and potentially pilot production batches at either internal or third-party manufacturing. The candidate shall be responsible for analyzing formulas and Lab/Pilot/Production data to determine their robustness to provide direction to the business as to feasibility and risk. This position leads the transfer of technology from product development to production for new product development, future emergent technology, regulatory & compliance projects, and other business continuity projects.

 

This position will be on-site at our Ormond Beach, FL manufacturing facility on a regular basis.

 

Accountabilities

Interactive member of technical cross-functional teams providing technical expertise, innovation and evaluation of risk. Develops and coordinates all activities related to Tech Transfer’s role of introducing formulas to production. Keeps abreast of new technologies related to design and manufacturing. Issues Process Development Summaries. Schedules periodic project status updates. Provides project estimated costs, delivery and resource timing to program managers. Design with manufacturability, compliance, and safety in mind. Analysis interpretation of SPC data. Liaison with formulation chemists to develop batch processing instructions. Design and execution of lab or pilot plant experiments to define and optimize the process. Identify problems, suggest solutions, record and report results. Scale-up formulas from the laboratory to the pilot plant. Scale-up and transfer technology from the pilot plant to production. Assist with troubleshooting plant production issues. Represent R&D and at times Quality at internal and external (contract labs / plants) for scale up, process experiments, validation batches and / or other project related activities. Travel will be required on a flexible and short-term basis at times. Fill out paperwork and prepare samples for delivery to Analytical and Micro. Generate and maintain process development history files. Provide technical assistance to less experienced technicians. Represent company / department in internal and external meetings. Maintain the readiness of the pilot plant. Pilot Lab record keeping and inventory. Adhere to 5S and cGMP policies.

 

Required Education, Skills and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, or another related field 3+ years’ experience in process development in the consumer products industry or related area. Working knowledge of cGMP, cGLP, OSHA, and EPA requirements.

 

Desired Education, Skills and Experience

Experience with IQ, OQ, and Validation preferred. Interaction with product concepts from manufacturing into production a plus. Good communication and interpersonal skills Good technical writing skills

 

Work environment

Ability to travel to multiple manufacturing locations. Ability to lift 50 lb. Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to work in production / pilot lab environment. Ability to occasionally work extended hours.

 

The salary range for this position is $68,000 - $102,000. Actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance.
