ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
+ Assist with the management and inspection of large and complex highway and bridge construction projects in the Rawlins area.
+ Apply knowledge of civil engineering and surveying principles to solve problems and make project decisions.
+ Work as part of a team of construction professionals including engineers, surveyors, inspectors, and material testers.
+ Perform field inspections, surveys, material testing, and quality control to ensure construction projects meet specifications.
+ Collect and prepare survey data for the design and construction of highway projects.
+ Ensure projects comply with all Federal and State requirements.
+ Calculate and track project quantities for accurate and timely payment to contractors.
+ Review project plans, specifications, and estimates and provide comments and feedback to designers.
+ Assist with project correspondence, technical reports, and project-related documents.
+ Work closely with contractor personnel, landowners, utilities, local government personnel, etc.
+ Assist the Resident Engineer in the scoping and development of future highway and bridge projects.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in Transportation Engineering.
KNOWLEDGE:
+ Knowledge of principles, theories, concepts, and practices of engineering.
+ Knowledge of application and interpretation of contract requirements, specifications, plans, procedures, policies, and standards.
+ Knowledge of drafting principals, practices, standards, and related office policies.
+ Knowledge of scientific methods necessary to solve problems.
+ Knowledge of underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions.
+ Knowledge of common construction equipment and practices.
+ Knowledge of computer applications for design, detailing, and office automation.
+ Ability to interpret plans and specifications based on sound engineering principles.
+ Skills in engineering calculation and accounting procedures.
+ Skills in interpersonal relations and communications.
+ Skills in oral and written communication.
+ Skills in decision-making and direction of work activities.
+ Skills in making engineering calculations and highway construction planning and design.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Some agencies may require a certificate of registration from the Board of Engineering.
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ Potentially exposed to hazardous waste.
+ Working around high-speed traffic and heavy construction equipment.
+ Work outdoors in a variety of inclement weather conditions, including heat, cold snow, and rain.
+ Physical Ability: Bending, stooping, and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds; safely lifting and moving necessary materials from one point to another; ability to stand for long periods.

+ Temporary employees accepting a full-time position.
+ Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public.
+ One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.
+ Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
+ Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
+ If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
