Position: Engineer 7
Agency: Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA)
Division: Operations – Baton Rouge
Office Location: 150 Terrace Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70802
Responsibilities:
+ Serves as the Manager for the Baton Rouge Operations office of CPRA.
+ Supervises two Engineer 6 Supervisors
+ Contributes to coastal restoration and hurricane protection programs that impact Louisiana's wetlands, marshes, flood plains, and other natural resources.
+ Applies extensive engineering experience to multi-million dollar construction projects related to flood protection and coastal restoration.
+ Addresses technical issues that may have little precedent, requiring expertise in balancing economic, environmental, and social considerations.
+ Engages in diverse and complex engineering functions involving multidisciplinary expertise.
+ Participates in controversial technical issues and provides solutions that align with the state’s protection and restoration goals.
+ Supports the Operations Chief by managing various flood protection and coastal restoration infrastructure projects.
+ Assists during emergency operations, flood events or hurricane and/or other disaster related issues.
The maximum salary for an Engineer 7 is $154,690 annually.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:
Three years of licensed engineering experience; or
Seven years of professional engineering experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience.
A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience.
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of professional engineering experience.
There is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.
NOTES:
Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience. Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.
Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.

Job Concepts
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To manage a major engineering function for a state agency.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Manager.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Broad from an Engineer 8 or higher. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Subordinate staff typically consists of Engineers 6 and other lower-level Engineers. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
LOCATION OF WORK:
May be used by all state agencies.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Engineer 6 by the presence of second-line supervision over professional engineers. Exceptions to this distinction may be approved by SCS based on program scope and/or complexity.
Differs from Engineer 8 by the absence of responsibility for directing large-scale engineering projects or programs for a state agency.

Analyzes and assigns priorities to needs; makes program and budget recommendations to agency administrators.
Monitors contract construction and maintenance projects; monitors project progress, reviews plan changes, performs inspections, and recommends final acceptance of completed projects.
Reviews the purchase of equipment and materials.
Confers with other public agencies concerning district activities, projects, and work force. Investigates and responds to inquiries by public officials and the public.
