Engineer - Drill and Blast

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit highly motivated and committed employees for the positions of Engineer – Drill and Blast to join the versatile Mine Drill and Blast Engineering team. We are in search individuals who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

Reporting to the Coordinator – Drill and Blast Planning, you will be responsible for supporting the aims and goals of the Drill and Blast Engineering section by ensuring adherence to LMC’s drill and blast planning management processes, supporting mining operations and mentoring of graduate mining engineers.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Optimise drill fleet schedules, work programs, targets and requirements within their limitations and ability. Provide reports on actual drill meters and conduct reconciliations on them. Produce post blast analysis reports Provide tie up plans to Drill and Blast operations Monitor explosive usage, fragmentation and powder factors. Assist Administrative Assistant with month end accruals and invoices for explosives and accessories Act as liaison to the explosive supplier for all technical matters Develop blast matrices for different hole sizes, material types and geological domains and use these for blast designs Promote and lead business improvement projects involving drilling and blasting. Follow environmental policies and strategies which are incorporated into Drill and Blast.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

Minimum of full Grade 12 School Certificate  Minimum 2 years’ experience in large multi pit operations utilising large scale mining equipment i.e. drill rigs and blasting experience essential. A Degree in Mining engineering or related engineering discipline.  Prior use and understanding of mine design/scheduling software preferably Vulcan but not essential.  Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and show a commitment to impart technical knowledge to the mine operations personnel. Must have good communication skills and proficiency in computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, spreadsheets and presentation. Strong report writing and presentation skills. Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia
