To help achieve our business plans, Bruce Power currently has an opportunity for an Engineer / Engineering Trainee within our Electrical Design Engineering Section. This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario. **Key Responsibilities:** Members of the Electrical Design Section as responsible for plant and project engineering design as it relates to the discipline of electrical engineering. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, design planning, design change packages, calculations, commissioning documentation, conducting field walkdowns, troubleshooting, plant support, and attending factory acceptance testing. **Specific Accountabilities:** + Design of electrical systems including switchyards, power transformers, generation equipment, distribution equipment, protection and control equipment, power conversion/battery equipment + Specify technical and design requirements. Conduct design work from engineering changes from conceptual design through to execution and closeout + Specify requirement for commissioning, factory acceptance testing, installation, qualification testing etc. + Develop engineering project schedules and budgetary estimates + Lead or participate in multi-disciplinary teams to solve problems + Lead engineering service providers to deliver scopes of work such as projects and engineering deliverables **Knowledge and Skills:** **Creative Problem-Solving** + Approach challenges with innovation and think outside the box. + Propose multiple solutions and evaluate them critically. **Attention to Detail** + Ensure designs are precise, accurate, and free from errors. + Review work meticulously to meet technical specifications and industry standards. **Strong Communication Skills** + Clearly articulate design concepts to cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders. + Actively listen to feedback and collaborate effectively. **Continuous Learning and Adaptability** + Stay updated on new technologies, tools, and industry trends. + Adapt quickly to changing project requirements or unexpected challenges. **Team Collaboration** + Work closely with other engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to achieve project goals. + Contribute positively to team dynamics by being approachable and cooperative. **Analytical Thinking** + Use data, simulations, and testing to make informed decisions. + Balance theoretical knowledge with practical application. **Customer-Centric Mindset** + Prioritize user needs and requirements in the design process. + Seek feedback from end users to refine and optimize designs. **Time Management and Organization** + Meet deadlines by prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively. + Keep track of multiple projects or design iterations. **Embracing Feedback and Iteration** + Accept constructive criticism to improve designs. + Iterate and refine based on input from peers, clients, or testing results. **Commitment to Safety and Sustainability** + Incorporate safety protocols and environmental considerations into designs. + Strive for sustainable solutions that align with ethical engineering practices. **Technical Focus:** + Technical working knowledge and experience related to one or more of the following topics is an asset: + Preference will be given to candidates with generator excitation skills and experience but we are also open to consider other candidates with strong skills in the below areas. + Power generators, standby diesel generators, excitation system, generator protections + Protection and Control (motor, buses, switchgear, transformers) + Power Conversion (Inverters, converters, rectifiers, batteries) + Power distribution (13.8kV, 4.16kV, 600V) switchgear, breakers, transformers, MCCs, cables, etc. + High voltage generation/transmission (230kV and 500kV) high voltage power transmission + A working knowledge in the some of the following areas is an asset: + Canadian and/or Ontario Electrical Safety Code associated with CSA C22.1 + ETAP electrical analysis software + Familiar with international standards such as IEEE Std. 1584, IEEE C57 Series, IEEE Colour Books, as well as other design engineering standards, practices, and processes within the discipline + Engineering management skills in following areas is an asset: + Project budget and schedule management + Project controls and risk assessment + Examples of ongoing projects/initiatives in Electrical Design: + Main generator exciter upgrade + Inverter, converter, rectifier replacement + Large power transformer replacement + Digital protective relaying upgrade + ETAP update and calculation (load flow, short circuit, ARC flash etc) + Motor control center (MCC) replacement **Education and Experience:** Engineer (Occupation Code 670325) + Completion of a 4-year University degree. Mechanical Engineering is an asset. + An Ontario Professional Engineering designation is required (P.Eng.). + A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years’ experience is considered necessary. Engineering Trainee (Occupation Code 670207) + Completion of a 4-year University degree.
