Job Description

Play a key role in providing geotechnical, civil engineering & project management expertise to facilitate construction, dam safety and regulatory compliance of tailings storage facilities (TSF), water storage dams, silt ponds and related infrastructure integral with the Macraes gold mining operation. The position will provide technical rigour to support OceanaGold’s commitment to the safe management of TSFs by avoiding and mitigating potential harm to the environment, employees and communities. Whether you are a recent graduate or have several years post qualification experience, this position will provide substantial career development opportunities.

Key responsibilities:

Undertake and facilitate regular inspection, surveillance and monitoring of TSF and dam embankments in accordance with the Operations Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) manuals.Ensure dam monitoring equipment and systems  is properly serviced, calibrated and maintained in a reliable condition.Maintain geotechnical databases, including accurate data entry, quality control and securityCompile and review monitoring data on a regular basis, following up and alerting on unusual or concerning observations or trends.Collaborate with and support exploration, geotechnical and environmental staff with data collection and monitoring responsibilities.Ensure that TSFs and water dams are operated and managed in compliance with relevant New Zealand legislation, Consent Conditions, and in alignment with NZSOLD and ICOLD guidelines and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).Maintain dam safety systems and compliance documentation including OMS manuals, emergency action plans, SOPs, risk registers, monitoring reports and other documentation.Develop skills and assist with geotechnical analysis and modelling as required.Ensure that construction records are documented, maintained and certified to ensure building code compliance.

QualificationsRelevant Degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Mining Engineering.Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.                    Experience in a mining or civil earthworks operation preferred.
