Employees in the Engineer I position solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. An Engineer II effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied. Responsibilities + Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity + Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities + Deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team + Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies + Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. + Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems. + Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities + Supports the company’s goals and represents the company positively and professionally + Will require on-call to help in cases of emergency switching analysis and preparation Basic/Required Qualifications I + Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program + A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree Basic/Required Qualifications II + Bachelor of Science in Engineering obtained from an ABET accredited program, OR a master’s degree in Engineering in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering + Minimum of two (2) years of engineering experience Desired Qualifications + Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering + Understanding of and ability to query large data sets + Experience with Distribution Model Management, DMS, or SCADA programs + Substation or Distribution field experience + Professional Engineer and/or Project Management Professional + Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles. + Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations. + Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. + Good written and oral communication skills. + Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam. + Understanding of basic principles of project management. + Experience in the utility industry. + Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department. Additional Preferred Qualifications + Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles. + Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations. + Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. + Good written and oral communication skills. + Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam. + Understanding of basic principles of project management. + Experience in the utility industry. + Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department. Working Conditions + Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility. + Control Center + Operate and maintain a 24 hour/day, seven days/week Distribution Grid Management operations center + The role will require working in a Distribution Control room and have on-call responsibilities.
