What will you do

The Field Service Engineer is responsible for performing the on-site installation, servicing, and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems. As an Engineer II, you will play a vital role in ensuring the flawless operation of our world-class technology. You will investigate and approve the operational quality of system equipment, and teach customers in the operation and maintenance of the system. Additionally, you will serve as a company liaison with customers on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects.

Responsibilities and work you're doing include:

Conduct on-site installation of equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure accurate working orderConduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits to keep our systems running smoothlyProvide fixing and repair support for customers and other field service personnel, ensuring minimal downtimeNurture and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and company personnel to ensure customer satisfactionTravel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve technical issues and provide timely supportComplete and submit field service reports to document work performed and maintain accurate recordsProvide training for customers and users on system maintenance to empower them to effectively use our technology.Provide feedback to product quality teams to contribute to the continuous improvement of our systemsProvide appropriate input in writing, updating, and correcting various Thermo Fisher Scientific system documentation to ensure accuracy and clarityProvide feedback for various reports, including identifying and isolating outstanding problems with our system, to drive innovation and improvementAct as a subject authority and resource for training, sharing your expertise and knowledge with others

How will you get here?

This position is ideal for an experienced service engineer wanting to be involved with a dynamic team and exposed to a constant variety of customer application areas. While a university degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in electronic system problem solving is preferred, we understand that equivalent experience can also be valuable. If you have no experience in a field services role but have exposure with Electron Microscopy tools, you are encouraged to apply. Additionally, if you have approximately 3-5 years of hands-on technical experience installing, solving problems, repairing, and calibrating sophisticated analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems, you are also a great fit for this role. Experience solving and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high voltage systems is highly desired as well as experience working in a wafer fabrication plant.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Ability to deal effectively with customers, providing exceptional customer serviceExcellent interpersonal communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and customersProven track record of solving sophisticated systems and subsystems down to the component levelProficient in MS DOS and Windows software environmentsCapable of comprehending and interpreting schematics to identify and address issues.
