Job Summary
Decatur BioProducts plant uses large scale aerobic fermentation to supply products to human food, pet food, animal feed and industrial markets.
The Decatur BioProducts plant is seeking an engineer with the skills to evaluate, improve, and modernize Utilities related unit operations. This position will provide immediate exposure to equipment, water treatment and processes that support a continuously operating facility including 3 multi-cell cooling towers and pumps, a closed loop chilled water system with multiple chillers and booster pumps, multiple compressors and dryers producing high pressure air for instrumentation, and multiple compressors generating low pressure air for fermentation. Utilities unit operations also support the Decatur Glycols facility with cooling water and instrument air.

Essential Job FunctionsAnalyze existing Utilities related processes for cost savings, reliability, and performance improvement opportunities; design and manage resulting Focused Improvement projectsAssist in identifying knowledge and skill gaps in operations colleagues and facilitate training, continuing education and technical support mentoringUtilize Management of Change (MOC) program for all Utilities related permanent and temporary changesEnsure process related documentation (P&IDs, Process Controls Narratives, Operating Targets & Ranges, Process Safety Information, Technical Training, etc.) is maintained to satisfy compliance needsInteract regularly with operations and maintenance colleagues to produce desired operational results and employee developmentAssist the Utilities operations team to troubleshoot and resolve problems at department level whenever possible and deliver regular feedback that is effective, consistent and fairEnsure the correct utilization, operation and maintenance of Utilities related equipment to support plant production and cost targetsActively promote, lead, support and fully participate in the Performance Excellence process in the Facilities Management department and BioProducts facility through use of PE and A2E tools such as Zero Loss, KPIs, Focused Improvement, Review and Response and Layered AuditingWork cooperatively and effectively with groups internal and external to the plant such as Subject Matter Experts, engineering, process controls, operations, maintenance, compliance and plant leadership teamsJob RequirementsBS or higher in Engineering or equivalent2+ years of relevant industrial experience is idealAbility to effectively and promptly communicate both verbally and written with colleagues at all levelsAbility to utilize independent judgment to solve problems, have excellent organizational and prioritization skills to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks, meet deadlines, and strive for continuous improvementStrong desire to learn, adaptable, have a high attention to detail and qualityWorking ConditionsIndustrial plant settingExcited about this role but don’t think you meet every requirement listed?
