What You Will Contribute:
 

The Engineer II, Advanced Manufacturing will be responsible for furthering the new product development goals by implementing new product and process technology into the manufacturing plants.  They will serve as the lead manufacturing representation on New Product Development (NPD) projects.  They'll work collaboratively with the NPD, Advanced Development (AD), and Sustaining teams to identify and implement new processes.  This position will be mentored by a more senior level engineer, but will be responsible for owning projects, following established processes, completing deliverables on time, and communicating status and roadblocks with stakeholders.  

Essential Duties:

Identify and implement advanced process projects, working with facility operations, product design, and other functions

Identify and lead Design for Manufacturability and Assembly efforts on proposed concepts

Develop line layouts and process maps

Apply scientific principles and practices to evaluate alternative processes

Learn and apply established Lean Six Sigma tools that are used across the organization (SPC/Control Charts, DOE, FMEA,
Gage R&R, MSA, hypothesis testing, etc.); identify when specific tools would be helpful and use them independently

Work with external integrators to implement automation solutions

Contribute as manufacturing lead on New Product Development teams

Research and integrate safe, reliable, and cost-effective equipment and processes that assure products are produced at
established safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives

Learn and apply basics of project management for manufacturing-based projects so that projects meet cost and timing
objectives

Become familiar with the Badger Meter safety policies and apply this knowledge to all projects and equipment

Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the year to Mexico or vendor sites in the US (typically, 3-4 trips to Badger Meter’s Mexico Manufacturing site).


Education and Experience :

Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering

3+ years of related experience

Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt preferred

Qualifications:

Experience in electromechanical final assembly (required)

Must be willing to work 30% of the time on the Manufacturing Floor or in the lab, and 70% of the time at the desk

Advanced understanding of Lean Manufacturing methodologies required

Familiar with ESD Protection and PCBA test systems

Strong presentation, collaboration, and documentation skills required

Understanding stage gate New Product Development process required

Familiar with robotic assemblies and control systems to implement automated processes utilizing Design for Automated Assembly (preferred)

Ability to communicate in Spanish (a plus)
