Job Summary

This position will be filled at either the Engineer II or III level. Candidates hired at the Engineer III level are expected to handle more complex activities.

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Engineer to join our team. The Project Engineer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing distributed energy resource (DER) projects with a focus on grid-edge technologies projects from inception to completion. Those responsibilities include but are not limited to developing, implementing, and managing various engineering projects. This role combines expertise in power systems, renewable energy, energy storage, and advanced grid integration to deliver innovative and sustainable energy solutions. The Project Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure successful deployment and integration of DER systems into grid infrastructure.
This role requires a strong technical background, excellent project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Job responsibilities may require extended hours and extended travel to the furthest reaches of Dominion Energy’s service territory and beyond.  Some instances may require overnight travel.  All tasks must be performed with the highest emphasis on safety, reliability, and customer service.
 

Key Responsibilities


•    Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets.
•    Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. contractors, and third-party vendors) to ensure project objectives (e.g. technical and operational) are met
•    Conduct technical analysis and provide engineering solutions to project challenges
•    Identify and mitigate project risks while ensuring high-quality deliverables.
•    Prepare and review engineering designs, specifications, and documentation.
•    Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations ((e.g., IEEE 1547, FERC, and NERC standards), and company policies.
•    Monitor project progress and adjust as necessary to meet deadlines and budget constraints.
•    Provide technical support and guidance to project team members.
•    Oversee system commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure compliance with performance and safety standards.
•    Conduct and review performance validations and post-installation evaluations to ensure system reliability and efficiency.
•    Collaborate with utilities and stakeholders to ensure smooth grid integration of DER solutions.
•    Prepare and present project status reports to management and stakeholders.
 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

Engineer II: 3+ years of relevant engineering experience Engineer III: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience

 

Qualifications:
•    Strong background in renewable energy systems, energy storage, and grid integration.
•    Proven experience in project engineering, lead, or a similar role.
•    Strong knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and standards.
•    Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
•    Proficiency in project management software and tools.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
•    Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred but not required.

 

Preferred Skills:
•    Proficiency in power system analysis tools (e.g., Synergi, CYME, PSS®E, ETAP, PowerFactory, RTDS).
•    Strong understanding of grid-edge technologies, advanced inverters, and DERMS platforms.
•    Excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
•    Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with diverse stakeholders.

Education Requirements

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license. Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree (Electrical with power systems concentration preferred)

 

Required:  Bachelor in Engineering or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license

 

Preferred:  Master’s degree

Required discipline(s): Engineering

Disciplines Preferred:
Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Power Systems, or a related field .
