TITLE: Engineer III, Refrigeration
HOURS: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
DUTIES: • Develop refrigeration systems to achieve the highest quality and long term reliability while at the same time providing environmental-friendly product designs and meeting regulatory and certification requirements.
• Work with New Product Development (NPD) team members to develop the refrigeration systems for cold storage products, including -86C Cascade, -150C Auto Cascade & Conventional systems ranging from 4C to -40C.
• Analyze the thermal behavior of the refrigeration system to include all heat & mass transfer mechanisms, fluid flow, and phase changes by use of predictive thermal fluid modeling and other thermo-physical tools for component selection and overall refrigeration system design.
• Develop specifications for system-level, subsystem and component performance.
• Develop and execute test plans to validate the performance of newly developed refrigeration systems by utilizing design for reliability tools and performance sensitivity analysis.
• Collaborate with the mechanical and electrical engineers in the NPD team for product design.
• Lead innovative advanced technology projects that will support future NPD projects and / or intellectual property.
• Design refrigeration systems for Manufacturability and Assembly at various manufacturing locations around the world and for ease of service.
• Design refrigeration systems that meet customer requirements, time to market commitments and that are within the target cost of the projects.
• Work effectively with global cross-functional teams during all phases of the toll-gate NPD Process.
Travel: Up to 10% domestic and international travel required.
REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM Education Requirement: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field of study. MINIMUM Experience Requirement: 3 years of product development experience as a mechanical engineer in refrigeration or HVAC, or related experience. Alternative Education and Experience Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field of study plus 5 years of product development experience as a mechanical engineer in refrigeration or HVAC, or related experience.
Required knowledge or experience with:
• Experience in the design, selection, and evaluation of refrigeration systems and components, including thermodynamics, heater transfer and fluid mechanics;
• Refrigerant properties and selection;
• Refrigeration testing methods and equipment;
• Thermal system modeling, selection and sizing of refrigeration system components including compressor, evaporator and condenser;
• Analyzing empirical data for thermal systems;
• Integrating global standards and regulations into product designs such as UL product certifications;
• Use of statistical data analysis (Minitab) in design verification;
• Problem solving methods;
• Engineering and Office Software, including CFD tools and Microsoft Office (Word, and Excel);
• CAD (Creo or SolidWorks), Engineering drawings, and measurement systems;
• Project management and phase gate processes; and
• Good documentation practices in drafting test plans, creating test protocols, and writing engineering reports.
