Differs from Engineer Intern 2 by the absence of independence when completing basic assignments. Examples of Work While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. 25% Inspects movable bridges statewide and consults with the District on minor electrical or mechanical repairs needed to the structures. Uses visual inspection and sophisticated diagnostic equipment to inspect the systems of the movable bridges in order to assure the safe operation of the bridges. 25% Prepares plans, specifications, cost estimates and bid documents for major electrical or mechanical repairs to facilities and structures statewide. Inspects and approves contracted and in-house electrical or mechanical maintenance projects statewide. Assists in the management of all audits done in-house and by consultants. 20% Assists the statewide Electrical or Mechanical Engineer regarding electrical or mechanical maintenance to all nine Districts and DOTD agencies. Also acts as maintenance consultant to Headquarters Administrators. Represents DOTD in matters dealing with other state agencies and Federal Highway Administration. 20% Participates in electrical or mechanical engineering programs statewide, establishes systematic prioritized preventive maintenance for DOTD facilities statewide, directs electrical or mechanical analysis and inspection including consultant examination and analysis. Evaluates electrical or mechanical design adequacy as it affects structures and facilities maintenance and operation for safety, reliability and longevity. Designs and/or redesigns electrical or mechanical systems to remedy any safety, reliability or longevity problems. 5% Prepares and conducts specific training for all electrical or mechanical maintenance personnel and bridge inspectors statewide and reviews technical content of the Bridge Inspectors Training Course. 5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
