The Role

Researches, develops, designs, and/or tests components, equipment, systems, and networks in one or more engineering disciplines. May design equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. Applies engineering principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.  

 

NNS is seeking an experienced engineer to support the Quality Assurance Engineering (QAE) department. This Engineer 5 will maintain local technical authority for the non-nuclear implementation of outfitting and/or material control processes (e.g., NAVSEA 0948-LP-045-7010). Additionally, this candidate will work with internal and external Tech Warrant Holders that impact quality processes. This Engineer 5 is responsible for QAE‘s interpretation of technical requirements executed by technical manuals, standards, and contracts.  This candidate will create and maintain technical partnerships across the enterprise. They will coordinate with other functional areas to identify and address problems, evaluate data, develop solutions/recommendations to solve problems, and optimize performance.   This candidate will provide technical leadership through identification and implementation of process improvement initiatives that support Quality Assurance Engineering’s key performance measurements, vision, and strategy. They will provide training and mentoring to build QAE’s and Q&TS’s technical bench.   The Incumbent should have a questioning attitude, a desire to learn and solve problems while working with personnel at all levels and within different functional areas of the company.  Ability to obtain a DoD Clearance.

Must Have

Bachelor’s Degree and 14 years of relevant exempt experience 
Master’s Degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience; 
Ph.D. and 9 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Working knowledge of outfitting processes (e.g., mechanical, electrical) and/or certification (e.g., work, systems, and hulls ) apply to shipbuilding
Training in LEAN, Six Sigma, CI methodologies, problem solving, and/or process management
Experience with SAP reporting and transactions
