As an Engineer - Sheet Metal Structures, you will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of engineering solutions. You will drive collaboration with cross-functional teams, leverage technical strategy and best practices, and lead the successful execution of projects. In this role, you will further develop sheet metal technical subject-matter expertise while contributing significantly to MFT’s growth and innovation.

 

What You’ll Do

Design sheet metal structures and components, ensuring they meet functional, aesthetic, and cost-effective criteria. Work with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) to create detailed engineering drawings and 3D models.

Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure designs are feasible and can be efficiently produced using sheet metal fabrication processes like stamping, laser cutting, bending, welding, and forming.

Evaluate and select appropriate sheet metal materials based on project requirements, considering factors such as strength, weight, corrosion resistance, and cost.

Coordinate the creation of prototypes and perform testing to validate the functionality and performance of sheet metal components before full-scale production.

Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) or other structural analysis methods to validate the strength, durability, and performance of sheet metal designs.

Ensure all designs meet industry standards and regulatory requirements. Perform inspections and collaborate with quality control teams to ensure product quality throughout the manufacturing process.

Contribute to complex product development programs by driving development and validation of the product or assemblies using standard methodologies like Concept Selection, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis, and Design Validation Plans

Lead problem solving activities using 8D methodology to identify root cause of issues and oversee development/implementation of a corrective action plan.

Develop technical drawings, models, and specifications using SolidWorks.

Identify areas for improvement, troubleshoot technical issues, and propose and implement design modifications of existing product lines related to sheet metal fabrication.

Stay up to date with the latest advancements, industry trends, and technological innovations in a chosen subject matter.

Actively participate in continuous learning and professional development activities, including attending training programs, workshops, and conferences.

Skills/Experience We’re Looking For

Strong knowledge and understanding of Sheet metal materials, specifications, product design, development, testing, tooling and manufacturing.

Strong knowledge and experience in design for assembly.

Proficiency in SolidWorks and other engineering tools and applications.

Knowledge of 8D or DMAIC problem solving principles and application.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.

Effective communication skills and the ability to convey technical information clearly.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master's in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

5+ years of relevant experience in an engineering role
