Engineer - Smart Label Packaging Process

The Global Packaging group is responsible for providing engineering and technical support for Lilly commercial packaging operations worldwide.  The group is also responsible for integration with the development organization as it relates to the delivery of packaging for new molecules and line extensions.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

The Engineer is responsible for providing engineering and technical support for processes, materials, systems, and equipment associated with packaging.  In addition, providing technical expertise to drive improvements in quality and efficiency globally.

Analysis of operations, workflows, and packaging process to provide solutions to maximize efficiency and reduce waste.Assist Packaging sites with developing and implementing process improvements and technology upgrades that help with minimizing costs and production issues.Assist with building process flow models to predict bottlenecks and resources needed for projects or for SitesMajor Capital Support - Provide support to Global Facilities Delivery for both conceptual and detailed design and testing on Major capital projects.Approve the design of packaging equipment based on the user requirementsDevelop the Verification strategy based on the design and failure model analysis of the equipmentPerform engineering analysis and prepare reports to define the optimal operating ranges for equipment parametersProvide technical support for troubleshooting during the commissioning and qualification phase.Perform commissioning and qualification testing on the equipment.Provide technical support for integration of the line with site automation systems and serialization equipmentKnowledge sharing – Serve as a key resource to support Contract Manufacturing site packaging engineering groups, domestic and global and gain support for ideas or positions on difficult issues.  Prepares presentations and technical reports.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering OR 7+ years equivalent work experience with packaging/labeler equipmentMinimum 3+ years of experience in packaging plant, packaging process, packaging asset delivery, maintenance or related fields supporting packaging operations

Additional Skills/Preferences:

Experience with packaging equipment, specifications, qualification/validation process, product/package stability, and packaging componentsExperience with vendor managementAbility to establish key relationships with other sitesProblem solving skills – anticipates and resolves complex problemsAbility to work independently and with minimal directionAbility to work across boundaries (functional, geographic, external company, etc)Thorough technical understanding of quality systems and regulatory requirementsFamiliarity with technology advances in packagingProject management experience

Additional Information:

Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time, US and international Will require occasional work in a variety of manufacturing environments; some safety equipment and/or gowning may be requiredBusiness title may vary depending on levelThis is not a remote position and will require on-site presence
