Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.

Job Description

This role is as a Transmission Line Engineer responsible for building and/or the QAQC of Digital Transmission Line Model (DTLM) Record Models utilizing PLS-CADD, and to generate compliance deliverables using the DTLM data and analysis of the models to create compliance and as-built records. The DTLM is the central repository and source of record for PLS-CADD as-built files for AEP’s Transmission Line Assets. A DTLM Record Model is a high-fidelity and attributed PLS-CADD model compliant with the latest AEP standards. The role requires creative thinking and problem solving to find solutions that satisfy all customers/stakeholders, as well as assuring the models meet strict safety and design standards and compliance objectives are met. Ideal candidates should have scoping, design, engineering, and material procurement experience with large electrical transmission line design projects, or on similarly complex design and construction projects.

Essential Job Functions:

Develop new DTLM Record Models in PLS-CADD using LiDAR or various other survey methods. Update existing DTLM Record Models to conform with the latest standards. QA/QC new and existing DTLM Record Models created by internal and external engineers to ensure alignment with our standards. Perform clearance checks and other analysis of the DTLM Record Models. Document analysis findings, perform risk assessments, and create compliance deliverables. Perform engineering work or support engineers performing engineering projects needed to resolve findings from the DTLM analysis. Develop physical walk-down work packages of existing AEP Transmission Line assets, support field personnel throughout the duration of the walkdown, and processed returned information back into the as-built records.Mentor team members on various subjects including, but not limited to DTLM processes and procedures, TLE basic principles, and AEP Safety and Culture.Supervise and review work of outside consultants as needed. Ensure all work activities are performed safely according to plan and established schedules in accordance with policies, standards and rules of the company and in compliance with regulations and procedures required by external agencies. Take a leadership role in the Transmission Line Engineering organization. Function as a Lead Subject Matter Expert on multiple topics. Prior experience in structural design, foundation design, construction, and/or surveying is required. Experience and/knowledge of transmission line specific design, structure modeling and plan and profile development is desired. Candidates without this experience will need the ability to quickly gain proficiency. Proficiency with PLS-CADD line design software is desired. Candidates without this software experience must quickly gain proficiency in these and other required applications. Competence with AutoDesk AutoCad and Inventor, and/or Bentley Microstation is desired. Proficiency with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is required. Knowledge of NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) Code and current industry standards is preferred. 40-45 hours per week and casual overtime as needed to meet project schedules. Project and electrical system support responsibilities may require overnight travel and require the knowledge, understanding and adherence to applicable safety procedures. Must be able to operate a company vehicle and possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.

Minimum Requirements:

Has typically acquired two ( 2) or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*.

Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Acceptable alternatives are:

(1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or

(2) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.

$70,961.00-88,700.50 USD
