**Salary: £47,615 per annum + Dependent Upon Experience**

**About IPSD**
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5,000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. **Job Summary**
As a component test engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating all the component test work managed by the Systems, Structures and Dynamics (SSD) team within the Europe Research and Development Centre (ERDC). The roll encompasses all of the engine systems on the medium sized Peterborough product; the engineer is responsible for liaising with the internal engineering customer, agreeing the test specification and then identifying the test equipment, selection of instrumentation and test execution either by themselves or through the supporting technician group. The engineer will work intimately with the Component Test technician group within the workshop, gaining a strong understanding of the rigs and equipment that the department can offer.
**What You Will Do**
The successful candidate will gather relevant information, compare and contrast data, identify relationships, and predict and manage failures. Challenges include questioning the status quo and championing new initiatives, collaborating with team members and other teams, and keeping abreast of advancing technology.
Assignments may require the Engineer – Test/Validation to review the work of technicians or other support personnel, provide technical advice to individuals at various levels in the organisation and work with another unit or team. Assignments will become more complex and require the Engineer to assume a significant role, either as an individual contributor or as part of a project team, with increasing emphasis on analysing, identifying, and applying engineering techniques to solve problems and make recommendations.
Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all of the following: perform needs analysis and initiate ideas; evaluate requests, processes, or systems; communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units; collaborate with and support other engineers, managers, maintain technical currency, and represent the company externally.
**What You Will Need**
+ Batchelor degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
+ HNC/HND level candidates who possess a strong engine development background and the desire to develop and exhibit the required competencies will also be considered.

+ Knowledge of engine systems and fundamentals of engine engineering
+ Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
+ Ability to troubleshoot rigs and equipment
+ Excellent analytical skills
+ Ability to communicate effectively with team members and others in the work group
+ Creating technical reports
+ Interpreting technical data and forming conclusions
+ Strong organisation and time management
