Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for an Associate Engineer/ Engineer Tool to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting the Clearfield, UT area.

The Associate Engineer/ Engineer Tool will be part of our Tooling Team and will Integrate & Offload Tooling packages to support Aerospace composite part fabrication, handling, and assembly for the commercial and defense aerospace industries. Engineers get the opportunity to manage their work from design concept thru implementation. Our Tooling Team works independently, but interacts closely with safety, engineering, manufacturing, and customers to achieve expectations.
The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, and collaborating with internal and external customers. You will work closely with manufacturing engineers, CAD Designers, safety, and operations, designing industrial machinery and equipment, tools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and machine attachments required for production or experimental use, while considering such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements. *This position will work a 9/80 schedule on 1st shift with every other Friday off. Onsite presence is required in Clearfield and Roy, UT. due to the nature of the role.
**There is intermittent travel associated with this role that is not expected to exceed 15%. Travel is typically all within the continental US and mainly involves tooling supplier visits and source inspections.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
Coordination of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers, both internal and externalCoordinate/develop & execute test plansPerforming tolerance analysis to ensure form/fit/functionConduct root cause failure investigations and implement associated corrective actionsDevelop & evaluate process improvementsAssist Product Development Team with new product designs to ensure manufacturability, validate process/technology.Developing manufacturing processes, plans, and procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment in support of our process work instructions and visual aids of our shop planning process and other functions that affect product performance.Managing all phases of project: design, document, fabricate, assemble, and validateCreate 3D models and 2D drawings to be used in the manufacturing of new tooling, to support the productionCreate effective and safe equipment that is used to manufacture, test, qualify, and transport aircraft or A/C components. Interface with review team to assure customer satisfaction with designWork alongside the manufacturing team to ensure overall program quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved Work with internal Customers to concept needed support equipment for new and existing programsDeveloping tooling concepts, creating/reviewing, and improving manufacturing processes to meet Customer requirementsUnderstand/monitor cost and scheduleReview engineering drawings and designs for manufacturabilitySupport vendors as needed during fabricationInspect tool configuration for drawing compliance, including fit, form and functionSupport Operations and Process Engineering in the use of all toolingCore Competencies :
Manufacturing Methods - Knowledge of manufacturing, methods, fabrication processes (e.g., forming, stamping, machining, heat treatment, machines/machine tools, cutting tools and fluids, N/C programming, instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems). Ability to select the best method of producing parts, tools, or assemblies. Verifiable performance record that includes the various aspects of assembly line operationProject Management - Successful project management and leadership experience. Coordination of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers, both internal and external. Computer Aided Design Tools - Basic knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (e.g., computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer aided three dimensional interactive (CATIA), Mentor Graphics, Unigraphics). Able to manipulate data sets, (e.g., compare CATIA to measurement data, create stereo lithography files). Engineering Drawings & Specs - Basic ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Basic level understanding of GD&TBasic Qualifications Associate Engineer Tool:
Bachelor of Science in a STEM related field with 0 years of experience in engineering, design, tooling, fabrication, or manufacturing/production environment; OR Masters’ Degree with 0 years of experience OR PHD with 0 years’ experience.Experience utilizing Siemens NX/CATIA CAD tools or applicable 3D CAD systemsAbility to obtain Special Program Access.Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance within a reasonable timeframe as required by the business.Basic Qualifications Engineer Tool:
