As the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, the spirit of this position is that of CAPEX

projects, maintenance projects, project management, and document management. An

innovative and big picture mindset is important for the success of this position.

 

This role will be very involved with production & maintenance operations as it deals with projects

that may interfere with various operations. In addition to the management of projects, this role

will be instrumental in identifying, documenting, and implementing operational changes to the

maintenance department. The ability to develop and implement operational changes in the

maintenance department will be necessary to effectively move forward with this role.

 

The Engineering & Maintenance Manager shall:

1. Manage a variety of complex issues in associated projects, plans, and schedules for

project implementation. Responsible for defining the scope of work for project teams.

2. Manage, identify, hire, develop and recognize maintenance staff.

3. Design new or improved process systems.

4. Review and approve technical feasibility of complex design concepts and analysis of

technologies that incorporate own area of expertise as well as multiple disciplines.

5. Review and analyze proposals to determine if benefits derived and possible applications

justify expenditures. Recommend proposal to management for consideration and

allocation of funds. Responsible for preparation of project cost estimates up to

multi-million dollar range. Monitors all project expenditures and cost tracking.

6. Responsible for policy setting and defining procedures for the staff in accomplishing and

documenting projects. Provides input on overall engineering department policy.

7. Approve protocols and support documentation (engineering change requests, system

change forms, etc) in order to secure project release. This is a "technical approver"

position.

8. Proactively and regularly communicate with plant departments.

 

Engineering Documentation

This role will be responsible for managing engineering documentation (i.e.: P&IDs), electrical

documents, and process design documents (i.e. BFD, PFD, & equipment specifications). In

addition, the creation of maintenance manuals for various sequences of production and

supporting equipment.

 

Maintenance Operations

This role will be responsible for creating the infrastructure and content for maintenance operating

procedures. Not only will these operating procedures encompass maintenance operations, but

best practices, administrative, and process data as well. This role will provide the expertise in

maintenance operations during change management and new projects.

Additionally, this role will be responsible for the complete development of MI/PM programs and

ensure their proper implementation and documentation, according to Solvay practices.

 

CAPEX Projects

This role will be responsible for managing CAPEX and maintenance projects aimed at increasing

safety, production, and ensuring operational readiness. You’ll be responsible for the engineering

scope and design documentation for capital projects involving CAPEX and maintenance. In

addition, the role will be required to provide hands-on technical expertise in various areas

including mechanical installations/upgrades, new tanks, or process equipment installations in

adherence with Solvay Safety and Engineering Standards.

 

Continuous Feedback and Improvement

This role will be responsible for performing, in collaboration, incident investigations involving

deviations from normal maintenance operations. This responsibility includes root cause analysis;

development of mitigation solutions; implementation of such solutions, and; follow-up to ensure

objectives are being met.

 

The success and effectiveness of this role are very dependent on the ability to persuade and

communicate the need for changes. Even though this role will be very supported by

management, the importance of developing strong and professional working relationships with

department leaders is critical.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must have Subject Matter Expert (SME) understanding of analytical, flow, level, pressure, temperature, chemicals, and weigh system instruments as well as pumps, tanks, and pressure vessel design. Perform project implementation activities, which include, design, design review, execution, coordination effort between all involved parties, monitor/tracking progress to ensure adherence to schedule. Analyzes equipment and performance to determine optimal batch operations. Develop expertise in manufacturing equipment specific to the chemicals used. Develop and implement maintenance-specific procedures, PMs, and training content. Participate in Process Hazard Reviews. Investigate operational upsets and provide solutions to address root causes. Applies engineering principles to design or modify equipment to improve processes. Utilizes knowledge of processes and equipment to monitor and drive maintenance performance indicators. Improve the operating skills, technical knowledge, and working environment of the workforce. Develop training content utilized in ensuring training skills are developed in maintenance. Be able to meet time commitments for this role. Able to work alongside maintenance to help become intimate with maintenance operations, equipment, and PMs. Manage all facets of engineering documentation. Project management.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field 3+ years’ experience as an engineer in batch chemical plants or related field Experience in DeltaV and other DCS programming. Engineering experience with projects and conformance with approved design, environmental, and safety standards in the chemical plant environment. US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card)

Must have the ability to work under pressure and change assignments quickly. Must be able to communicate information with others verbally and in written forms. Must have good mathematical skills. Basic problem-solving skills. Organizational skills. Must be able to write clearly and concisely. Ability to take ownership of general processes/products. The ability to meet deadlines and targets. Must have a basic understanding of production schedules.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must be punctual and meet attendance requirements. Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited

to, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice.

Available to work all shifts.

 

You will get:

Competitive salary and benefits package The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $108,000.00 to $162,000.00 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range.
