Opportunity Summary
The Engineering / EHS Manager leads operational excellence by ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards while driving engineering innovation. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams and external partners to optimize plant performance, manage capital projects, and implement preventative maintenance programs. Leveraging expertise in environmental compliance and engineering principles, the manager fosters a safe, sustainable, and efficient work environment while delivering impactful solutions for continuous improvement.
Your scope of responsibility as Engineering / EHS Manager will include the following primary functions:
Engineering
Collaborate with external engineering firms to discuss field changes, engage with manufacturers, service personnel, and vendors to resolve issues, discuss modifications or new equipment, and exchange information. Track and assess overall plant performance and make recommendations for operational improvements aimed at enhancing efficiency, capacity, and cost reduction. Develop, communicate, and implement work practices and procedures to maintain up-to-date site drawings and documentation. Administer the Management of Change (MOC) program and ensure high-quality documentation. Manage capital improvement projects to meet budgetary guidelines and contractual guarantees. Perform reliability studies to ensure the facility’s availability and capacity factors are maximized. Develop and maintain equipment history operating records, including operating hours, maintenance downtime, cost, availability, and manpower utilization, and report such information to the Plant Manager. Serve as a resource to all personnel to ensure the facility operates as reliably and efficiently as possible. Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to prevent failures and extend equipment lifespan. Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies, process improvements, and optimal use of equipment. Oversee and manage external contracts and contractors to ensure compliance with scope, cost, and timelines. Contribute to the development and monitoring of budgets for operational activities and capital projects. Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and best practices, contributing to a safe working environment. Provide technical support and training to plant personnel to ensure understanding of operational procedures and maintenance practices. Lead in-depth root cause and failure analyses (RCA’s) and facilitate implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Assist in review / amendment / improvement of operation and maintenance procedures.Environmental, Health and Safety
Execute compliance support functions for plant operations and maintenance, ensuring adherence to environmental and safety regulations. Oversee plant emissions and environmental performance to ensure compliance. Provide guidance, oversight, and training for daily operations, ensuring all plant activities comply with applicable laws and regulations. Ensure adherence to environmental sampling and reporting requirements. Support the Owner in liaising with local environmental and safety regulators, including preparing for inspections, responding to information requests, facilitating permit modifications, renewals, and preparing routine compliance reports and communications. Act as the primary contact for meetings with regulators during compliance visits. Monitor plant operations to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Recommend corrective actions and implement improvements when needed. Manage the coordination of waste shipments to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. Prepare compliance reports and submit them to the appropriate owner representative. Conduct root cause analysis for EH&S incidents and other plant-related issues. Monitor and assess plant safety, facilitate safety training, and conduct routine site compliance inspections. Oversee management of hazardous substances and safety data sheets (SDSs), interpreting them for the safe handling and disposal of chemicals.NAES Safe

Conduct/Support Regular Safety Meetings (at least monthly). Address Safety at all Group Meetings. Conduct Inspections and Observations: establish within the department a regular inspection of the work area and a safety observation process of work being performed. Establish and lead these activities following any rules, requirements or guidance established in your business unit, group, or division. Involve all NAES teammates in the activities. Analyze result, write work orders, train, and educate to eliminate hazards, at-risk behavior and meet company regulatory requirements. Conduct Regular Observation Tours: Conduct no less than two safety observation tours of high-risk activities e.g., confined space to verify that employees are performing the work in accordance with safe practices, company procedures and OSHA regulations. Regular and Frequent Contacts: conduct one-on-one contact sessions with workers to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations and coach safe behaviors, e.g., whether the employee is wearing all required personal protective equipment. Respond to Incidents: respond to all safety-related incidents including, but not limited to injuries, incidents and near misses; write a report that explains what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective action following any established business unit or division practice. Follow up as necessary to ensure that corrective action is taken.Working Relationships
The Engineering / EHS Manager reports to the Plant Manager and coordinates work activity with the O&M Manager, Operations / Bunkering Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor, and Accounting / Procurement Specialist. Interfaces with contractor and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel for the necessary support and coordination.
The Engineering / EHS Manager maintains a close working relationship with NAES corporate Safety and Environmental Support Services groups as well as Client corporate contacts.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Industrial plant environment. Physical requirements include the ability to reach, climb, walk, and stoop throughout the workday, as well as the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
This position offers a Monday to Friday work schedule during regular dayshift hours. Position may also require extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
Compensation
The initial compensation will range from $137,000 to $164,000 and will include an annual performance bonus.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or a related degree is required. Possession of a current TWIC Card or the ability to obtain one as part of pre-employment contingencies is required. Proven experience in plant operations, maintenance, and engineering, with a focus on optimizing performance, reliability, and efficiency. Proficiency in capital project management, including scope, timelines, budgets, and ensuring compliance with design standards and contractual obligations. Strong analytical skills, with expertise in reliability studies, root cause analyses, and implementing corrective actions to enhance plant performance. Experience coordinating with external engineering firms, vendors, and contractors for successful field changes, equipment upgrades, and process improvements. Comprehensive knowledge of environmental compliance and safety, preferably in gas or power plants, with a solid understanding of plant operations and environmental impacts. Familiarity with major environmental legislation (air quality, water management, hazardous materials, waste management) and expertise in at least one regulatory area is a plus. Strong foundation in safety programs and the interplay between environmental compliance and operational functions for proactive risk management. Experience with continuous emissions monitoring and data acquisition handling software (CEMS/DAHS) is a plus. Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to deliver training, build consensus, and convey complex information clearly. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, assess compliance risks, and implement solutions in an industrial environment. Working knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, PHMSA, DOT, NFPA, and NEC regulations is desirable. HAZWOPER experience is a plus. Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.About NAES
