Engineering Estimator

The Engineering Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for infrastructure projects, such as dry utilities (electrical, gas, communications), wet utilities, (water, sewer, etc), and drainage systems, and other civil engineering works. This role requires expertise in construction processes, engineering principles, and a deep understanding of materials, labor, and time requirements for infrastructure projects. The estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure that project budgets and timelines are aligned with the client’s needs and expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for infrastructure engineering projects, including quantities, materials, labor, and equipment.
• Project Scope Analysis: Review and interpret project specifications, blueprints, and other technical documents to develop accurate
estimates.
• Bid Preparation: Prepare and submit comprehensive bids for infrastructure projects, considering all project variables such as design, scope, and location.
• Cost Control: Monitor costs throughout the project lifecycle, identify potential cost overruns, and recommend solutions to ensure the project remains within budget.
• Collaboration: Work with engineers, architects, and project managers to ensure all project requirements are accounted for in the estimate.
• Supplier and Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate material and labor costs.
• Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks associated with the project scope, design, and materials, and incorporate these into the cost estimation process.
• Value Engineering: Recommend cost-saving measures or design alternatives to meet project goals while reducing costs.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all estimates, bids, and changes for future reference and audits.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, construction techniques, and pricing changes to improve estimating accuracy.

Skills and Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
• Experience:
          o Minimum of [3-5] years of experience in infrastructure estimation or related roles.
          o Experience with cost estimation software (e.g., Procore, Planswift, EBM, Buildertrend, or similar tools).
          o Familiarity with construction methods, material costs, and labor requirements for infrastructure projects.
• Technical Skills:
          o Strong knowledge of engineering principles and civil construction processes.
          o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and estimation software.
          o Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and drawings.
          o Ability to understand MUTCD and creating temporary traffic control plans (TTCP) a plus
• Soft Skills:
          o Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
          o Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
          o Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
          o Strong time management and organizational skills.
          o Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Certifications: Estimating or Project Management certifications (e.g., AACE Certified Estimating Professional, PMP) are a plus.
• Experience: Previous experience in estimating infrastructure projects, such as utilities, roadways, culverts, etc.
• Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of project management software (e.g., Buildertrend, Procore).

Work Environment:
• Office-based, with occasional site visits for on-site assessments and meetings.
• Interaction with clients, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• May require occasional regional travel depending on the project location.

Compensation and Benefits:
• Competitive salary based on experience. Compensation: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
