Department Overview
The Gas Estimating Engineering Department is responsible for providing new (or modification of existing) gas service and distribution main system design for both residential and commercial gas customers in all areas. Gas estimating also designs large maintenance projects and provides engineering and design support to gas construction personnel, both Division and General Construction, during day-to-day operations.
Position Summary
This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.
This position will be responsible for gas distribution and service design for new or existing facilities.
Current and recent ESC Hiring Hall must obtain “Autodesk Certified User (ACU)” certificate within the first twelve months of hire.
This position requires a 24-month lock-in period for new hires into estimating positions from outside ESC, per LOA 16-23 ESC
PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $48.58 per hour. This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.
Job Responsibilities
Prepare cost estimates and construction plans Make field sketches and prepare layouts for construction of additions or improvements to electric or gas systems of such a nature that the plans and methods are embodied in existing standards, specifications, rules, and regulations Estimate labor and material costs; initiate right-of-way procedures, licenses, permits, etc., and perform such other work as required to prepare the estimate in final form Perform customer to agency contact, project coordination, billing, and contract preparation Prepare final sketch or layout and cost estimates for more complex jobs from field notes prepared by an employee in a higher classification May be required to investigate and prepare reports on third-party accidents
Qualifications
Minimum:
Possess high school diploma or GED equivalent Must have a valid Class C California Driver's License or ability to obtain by first day of employment Must obtain an Autodesk Certified User (ACU) certificate or a two-year technical degree in Drafting within the first 12 months of hire
Desired:
Additional consideration may be given to candidates that reside within 50 miles of the headquarters A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, science or math discipline and Construction Management; or, Associate degree in Design/Drafting 2 years of experience in an engineering or construction field or; 1 year of work experience in PG&E Service Planning & Design Current or prior experience as Hiring Hall Engineering Estimator At least 1 year of experience with architectural, civil, or mechanical drafting and ability to review and understand architectural plans and mechanical drawings At least 2 years of experience with AutoCAD Demonstrated experience working with customers on resolving issues or working on projects together At least 1 year of experience in demonstrating effective project management / process oriented and negotiation skills Intermediate Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Experience with web-based software (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc) Familiar with CPUC tariffs (Gas Rule 2, 15, 16) At least 1 year of experience using SAP At least 1 year of utility operations knowledge and experience. Gas design technical skills General gas business knowledge Strong organizational skills At least 1 year of knowledge and experience with PG&E gas system and construction standards Familiar with PG&E Green Book requirement to establish gas service
