Position Summary

The Distribution Modeling team is responsible for developing power flow and forecast models for the electric distribution system and performing technical analysis of future system impacts from the growth in customer electric usage, electric vehicle usage, distributed solar interconnections, and battery storage applications. To accomplish this, the team must establish streamlined evaluation procedures and data flows, integrate new data sources, validate calculations with field measurements, clearly document processes and assumptions made, and provide informative study report visualizations to support planning, financial, and regulatory needs.

Engineering interns within this team are treated like engineers and will be given engineering projects under the guidance of a more experienced engineer.

This will be a yearlong opportunity starting in January or May of 2025. The candidate should be able to work full-time during the summer and at least 10 hours per week during the school year. Work schedule is flexible but should be regular and fall within normal work hours (weekdays between 7AM and 5PM).

Responsibilities

Projects and tasks may include conducting power flow analysis, validating power flow calculations, troubleshooting technical issues, automating manual procedures, documenting trainings and processes, and researching new study/evaluation methods.

Successful interns will have the opportunity for potential full time employment post internship.

Requirements

Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program, studying areas such as Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering or Computer Science

Strong communication skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Electric Circuits Course

Basic programming/coding skills (C++, Python, SQL, etc.) preferred but not required

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $20.70 to $30.10 per hour
