Engineering Intern

The Dogwood Energy Facility, located near Pleasant Hill in Cass County, Missouri, strategically operates within the northern SPP reliability council region. This 625 MW natural gas combined-cycle plant employs a 2x1 configuration with two Siemens Westinghouse 501F D2 Gas Turbines, two Toshiba Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs), and one Toshiba Steam Turbine Generator.

Opportunity Summary

The Engineering Intern will gain exposure to various aspects of power generation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance. At Dogwood, our goal is to provide a hands-on learning experience that strengthens your skills and equips you with valuable industry knowledge.

Here's a look at the projects planned during this internship period:

P&ID Diagram Walk-down and Verification - verify the accuracy of various P&ID diagrams through physical walk-downs in the plant. AutoCAD Drawing Updates – learn to read and interpret plant engineering drawings. Update existing AutoCAD drawings to reflect any changes or modifications made to plant systems.  System Analysis, Data Analysis, Trend Analysis – develop analytical skills by reviewing and analyzing plant system performance data. Plant Engineer Duties and Possible Plant Tours - gain insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of a Plant Engineer. RFQ (Request for quotation) Generation – gain experience in the procurement process by generating RFQs for necessary services and equipment. Outage Planning – assist in planning for upcoming plant outages, including resource allocation and scheduling.

Primary Functions

Collaborate with the Plant Engineer to support and contribute to various plant projects.

Comply with all facility environmental, health and safety policies and procedures. Perform other duties as required or assigned within scope of abilities. 

Compensation

The hourly rate of pay will be $25.00 per hour.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Work Conditions

The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at an industrial site.

Education and Experience Required 

We are accepting applications from current students enrolled in an Engineering program; third year student in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred. Educational concentration in power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety is desired.

Basic understanding of power generation principles, equipment, and safety regulations Proficiency in data analysis, technical drawings, Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Strong communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills Genuine interest in power generation, energy efficiency and optimization Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license at all times.
