Engineering Intern - APC

The Engineering Intern will apply engineering principles to design, modify, or test equipment and processes used in the manufacturing APC products.
**JOB QUALIFICATONS:**
Education:
Pursuing a CAD, Automation, Manufacturing Technology or Engineering degree
Preferred in second or third year
Preferred >3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA
Experience:
Experience with SolidWorks or 3D CAD programs required.
**JOB DUTIES:**
+ Manage SolidWorks file integration into PDM vault.
+ Assist engineers with AutoCAD and SolidWorks models and drawings.
+ Create, update and modify Process Flow Diagrams and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams in AutoCAD.
+ Identify and label all process related components in APC’s production plants.
+ Provide regular updates to engineering team regarding the status of projects.
+ Assist Engineers in engineering design and development, evaluation and justification of projects, project scope of work, budgeting, return on investment, equipment selection, coordination, contractor relations and onsite installation.
+ Work safely.
**JOB REQUIREMENTS:**
+ Familiarity with process control design and instrumentation design and selection.
+ Ability to operate computer aided design programs specifically AutoCAD & SolidWorks.
+ Knowledge of engineering practices/principles and the ability to develop, analyze, and implement engineering methods and processes.
+ Ability to perform basic engineering calculations such as mechanical, structural, and mass energy balances.
+ Ability to effectively communicate with APC, Inc. personnel, contractors, vendors, suppliers, customers, and other business related contacts.
+ Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality related to all duties and responsibilities, such as product development information, engineering methods, techniques, and current or future projects.
+ Ability to function effectively and proactively in a team environment.
+ Basic understanding of pumps, heat exchangers, spray drying, dust collection, gravity & chemical separations, bulk powder and solids sizing and packaging, and pneumatic conveyance systems.
+ Ability to work 10+ hours per week during the school year and 40+ hours per week during summer.
+ Reliable transportation to work in Ankeny, Iowa.
+ Ability to travel during summer up to 25% - vehicle, hotels and meals will be provided during travel.

**BASIC MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:**
This job requires the mental capabilities to apply mathematical and chemical practices/principles utilized in the production of APC, Inc. products effecting a profitable and high quality finished product. Furthermore, the incumbent for this position must have the abilities to organize and manage several tasks/projects simultaneously, possess and apply drafting and design principles, manage subordinates in an appropriate manner, and possess excellent communication skills in working with a variety of business associates.
**WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPOSURES:**
Working conditions vary, a portion of the job duties occur within a general office environment while other job duties occur within a manufacturing plant setting with exposure to acidic and alkaline substances. Additional exposures include biohazards, odor, noise, dust, moving machinery, and occasional contact with hazardous chemicals. Furthermore, this position may require the incumbent to travel on business to production plant in a variety of weather conditions. Occasional travel may be required due to project demands.
