Engineering Lead - Alternative Fuel

As the Engineering Lead for ethanol fueled mining trucks, you will architect and integrate new products, components, and technologies for 150 to 250-ton mining trucks. This position performs complex analysis work, identifies design problems, and resolves problems. Although this position may be the transition from individual contributor to team leadership, the major focus is on technical delivery. You will work directly with internal partners, suppliers, customers, and global teams. Your primary focus will be on an important initiative with Vale, a global mining giant. Recently Vale and Caterpillar announced an agreement (https://vale.com/w/vale-and-caterpillar-strengthen-collaboration-to-focus-on-productivity-innovation-and-decarbonization/-/categories/1968812) that will focus on productivity and innovation, including carbon reduction initiatives. The aim is to support Vale in achieving its goals of reducing carbon emissions by 33% by 2030 and zeroing its net emissions by 2050. We will also begin a joint study on a dual-fuel solution for haul trucks operating on ethanol and diesel fuel. You'll be right in the middle of this, working with great people and making a real difference for the environment. **What you will do:** • Develop project scope to define machine solutions and overall requirements. • Lead top level machine integration to ensure this new product exceeds customer expectations for performance, reliability and cost of ownership. • Coordinating resources across product development groups, value chain, manufacturing and sales/marketing teams. • Overseeing project progress and costs; communicating status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; addressing and resolving problems. • Directing project staffing; motivating and developing project team and team members. • Lead business process management as a secondary responsibility, working across a diverse portfolio of mining truck projects and programs. **Degree Requirement:** Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum. **What skills you will have:** **Technical Excellence:** Extensive experience with machine and systems integration. Experience with engines, machine performance or mining applications. **Effective Communications:** Superior communication skills – both written and verbal. Experience providing technical and project updates to stakeholders and customers. **Products and Services:** Knowledge of major products and services and product and service groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations. **Influencing Through Expertise:** Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization. **Team Management:** Knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams. Experience working across cultures with global teams. **Requirements Analysis:** Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record detailed requirements to ensure project success. **Product Design and Development:** Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production. **Top Candidates will also have:** Knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish. **Additional Information:** This position requires the candidate **to work full-time in the Tucson, AZ or Decatur, IL office.** This position may require 10 – 20 % travel, including South America. Relocation is available. Sponsorship is not available. **Summary Pay Range:** $126,000.00 - $189,000.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.
