How you will contribute?

Developing a Strong Team - Growing your squads’ strengths through coaching, mentoring, and enabling excellent opportunities.Building an extraordinary team dynamic through engagement, coordinating around the squads’ strengths and/or adding the right people to the squad.Delivering a Best-In-Class Products through Technical Design.Influence, collaborate and strategize with product owners, architects, and software engineers to uncover difficulties and opportunities to deliver business value through software.Delivery of products, technical enhancements, and services in an iterative and extendable architectural design.Maintain, with an eye for further improvement opportunities, these critical applications, with accountability for production reliability, security and performance.Develop patterns and documentation to ensure ongoing maintenance of technical and regulatory solutions.Evaluate and define existing technology standards to ensure compliance with program-level requirements.Work with partner teams to redesign process flows when necessary.Track emerging technology and policy trends that might affect day-to-day operations.

Accountabilities & Attributes:

Demonstrates understanding of how technology supports Manulife's strategy.Strong leadership skills for mentoring, developing team members, motivating/engaging a squad.Experience within the insurance or financial services industry is preferred.Strong detail orientation and analytical skills.Awareness of full-technology stack (MERN).Shown interpersonal skills beyond role requirements and ability to build strong relationships with business partners.Constantly learns from both success and failure.Good organizational and problem-solving abilities that enable you to lead through creative abrasion.

You will bring and continuously build upon the following skills:

7+ years of mainframe engineering delivery experience for large projects, enhancements, improving processes for efficiencies and supporting incidents.7+ years with hands-on Mainframe development preferred and ability to guide developers with technical decisions.2+ years’ of people leadership experience leading a distributed technical team.COBOL, DB2, CICS, VSAM, JCL, SAS, Easytrieve+, Endevor and TSO.Mainframe platforms: zOS Connect, MVS/OS 390, Unix.Mainframe utilities: File-Aid/DB2, SDSF, SPUFI, ISPF, Xpediter, Scheduler (CA WorkLoad Automation/ESP dSeries Workload Automation, CONTROL M, CA7).Querying and modifying VSAM.Experience with legacy transformation is a bonus.Responds well to ambiguity and works efficiently to clarify situations and outcomes.Collaborative and willingness to work with team members; able to coach, participate in code reviews, support or drive design sessions.Good problem-solving skills.Good verbal and written communication; able to effectively articulate technical vision, possibilities and outcomes.

Salary range is expected to be between

$94,220.00 CAD - $174,980.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
