Summary
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to support the construction, commissioning and operations of a greenfield asphalt shingle manufacturing plant in Newton KS. The candidate will participate in design reviews, construction and commissioning efforts. During plant construction and commissioning, the Engineering Manager will coordinate with internal and external resources to ensure schedule and financial compliance.
After commissioning the Engineering Manager will provide project engineering services to the organization by coordinating development between Production, Maintenance, and Quality Assurance. This position may require working overtime - to include weekends and/or nights. Other expectations include the ability to perform all the other duties and tasks of the other employees within the department when required or needed. The Engineering Manager must also be knowledgeable and capable of following and enforcing all department and Plant rules, policies and procedures.
Essential Duties
Assist Corporate design team with plant design. Ensure compliance with construction and commissioning schedules.
Participate in design activities (detailed manufacturing and support systems designs, engineering reviews, factory acceptance testing, etc.)
Responsible for hiring and developing the project engineering team.
Ensure a high level of competence and performance within the department. Ensure the existence of consistent and comprehensive job standards, procedures, and quality requirements for the engineering group.
Support and participate in plant problem solving in mechanical, electrical, and instrument as requested by Production/Maintenance. Review new equipment designs and recommend modifications to minimize cost, conform to production capabilities, and enhance safety.
Maintain thorough engineering standards for project design and execution, feasibility analysis, equipment standards, safety, construction, execution, and site implementation.
Proactively evaluate value-added benefits of short-term and long-term continuous improvement opportunities through capital project execution. Coordinate development, submission, and approval of annual capital plan and update monthly spending forecast.
Monitor, define applicability, and implement necessary codes, standards, and regulatory requirements throughout the facility. Ensure that complete plant drawings exist and are kept up-to-date. Ensure new equipment is fully documented.
Develop and coordinate outage schedules showing engineering, maintenance and production tasks, durations, dependencies, conflicts, etc. Identify critical path(s) and potential problem analysis and resolution.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical) coupled with knowledge/experience leading in a manufacturing process is required
5+ years demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment

Experience with asphalt shingle manufacturing
Proficiency in mechanical, electrical or pneumatic systems
Experience with process hazard analysis
Experience with process hazard analysis and process safety management
Ability to communicate, both written, and orally, in English is required
Ability to meet extensive travel requirements in first 1-2 years for the opportunity to visit and train at existing GAF locations
Experience in Google Suite and SAP is beneficial
Ability to translate technical data into a format/language suitable for all personnel
Strong working knowledge of project management processes and systems
Knowledge of engineering fundamentals to include root cause analysis, statistical process control, lean/agile approaches and structured problem solving (Kepner Tregoe, Potential Problem Analysis, Design of Experiments, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings
Ability to interpret the content and terms of vendor proposals
Ability to manage outside contractors to safely and efficiently implement projects
