Engineering Manager

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for leading, planning, directing and coordinating manufacturing processes and improvements within the plant that will meet and/or exceed internal and customer expectations while optimizing plant profitability and safety of the workforce. 



Duties and Responsibilities:

Directs continuous improvement activities and communicates monthly to program specific and plant budgeted targets.Plans and formulates part specific industrial solutions and allocate engineering resources to achieve target productivity, scrap and uptime planned rates.Assigns project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies and process design.Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer contract requirements and related specifications.Coordinates activities concerned with part development, scheduling and resolving engineering design and production problems.Evaluates engineering changes, specifications and drawings for risk, feasibility, investment, capacity and productivity.Manages expenditures within limitations of project budget.Works with internal and external suppliers to ensure smooth and cost-effective new product launch.Responsible for product launch and managing gate review metrics.Develop Prototype and Service part manufacturing solutions.Track the customer owned tooling on-site, replacement casting tooling, and timely invoicing of customer tooling.Ensures team members are trained to guarantee proper skill sets are developed and improved on daily. Completes performance evaluations and mentoring/coaching session in a timely and proactive manner with direct reports.Responsible for the safety, morale and development of direct reports. Facilitates team meetings; translates Company objectives in EHS, 5-S, quality and production into action plans. Interprets Company policies to team members, enforces safety regulations and follows up on off shifts as needed.Other duties may be assigned.


Decisions Making Scope/Supervisory Responsibility:

This position is responsible for hourly and salaried employees that includes, but is not limited to: Casting Process Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Engineering Technicians, Process Technicians; CAD/CAM Technicians.


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

This position involves standing, walking, bending and being able to lift/move up to 25 lbs. on occasion.Individual may be exposed to loud noises throughout the workday.This position will perform work in both a plant and office environment with unrestricted movement. Travel as required; less than 5% typical travel.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The noise level in the plant is higher and ear protection must be worn.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Requirements


Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or universityFive years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Skills, Knowledge and Competencies:

Strong written and verbal communication skills required (language skills, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, etc.)Permanent mold casting experience is preferred.Permanent machining and assembly experience is preferred.Experience with continuous improvement initiatives and methods engineering.Working knowledge of lean manufacturing, Kaizen, and TPM.Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to implement win-win solutions.Experience in project management timing plan composition and optimization.Experience in manufacturing process cost estimating.Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office software.Strong leadership skills.


Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

Certification in Lean Manufacturing Principles is preferredCertification in Six Sigma Belt certifications preferred
