Its success within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector is largely attributed to its interoperability and extensibility.  

We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and collaborative engineering leader to expand our team in Romania and drive the delivery of key requirements. Your leadership will be instrumental in enhancing product extensibility and interoperability through initiatives such as extending the SketchUp Ruby API and refining existing importers and exporters (e.g., IFC, DWG, USD as well as building out new web services. 

Additionally, you will play a vital role in fostering the growth and development of team members, providing technical guidance and support when needed. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven ability to achieve results in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Job Purpose:

As the Engineering Manager leading several local team members from various projects in SketchUp, you will be driving the success of a number of cutting-edge solutions that will help accelerate the growth of SketchUp.  Leading a talented engineering team, you will collaborate with other SketchUp and Trimble teams across geographies to deliver client and cloud-based solutions to address evolving customer needs. 

Beyond overseeing project execution and leading a talented engineering team, this position requires close collaboration with Product Management and Engineering Management in different geographies so strong communication skills is vital to this role to ensure alignment.   We also expect a manager to gain technical familiarity with at least one of the areas so that they can  participate in a limited sense in development.

Main Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

Provide strategic direction and leadership to teams working on the projects in coordination with other engineering leaders;

Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture, ensuring a positive and productive work environment;

Mentor and develop team members, encouraging continuous learning and professional growth;

Planning and Execution:

Develop and implement project plans, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and timelines;

Drive the successful execution of Trimble projects, overseeing the entire development lifecycle from concept to delivery;

Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define project requirements and priorities.

Technical Expertise:

Utilize your in-depth technical knowledge to guide the team in making sound architectural and design decisions;

Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, incorporating them into the development process where relevant;

Act as a technical mentor, providing guidance on complex technical challenges.

Strategic Alignment:

Work closely with business leaders to align engineering efforts with overall business strategy and objectives;

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that engineering initiatives contribute to the achievement of both short-term and long-term organizational goals.

Continuous Improvement:

Implement mechanisms to track and measure product performance against key metrics;

Utilize data-driven insights to identify areas for improvement and drive initiatives to enhance product quality, reliability, and user satisfaction;

Champion a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team.

Skillsets

Proven expertise in leading teams to deliver high-quality software products on client and/or cloud-based platforms;

In-depth understanding of full-stack development, covering both frontend and backend technologies;

Proficient in at least one programming language and working knowledge of multiple languages from C++ (preferred), Typescript, Java, Scala, Python, Ruby or Swift;

Familiar with using existing APIs from multiple vendors;

Demonstrated proficiency in agile development methodologies with a track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time;

Deep knowledge of product management principles and practices, with the ability to contribute to product roadmaps and strategies;

A strategic mindset with the ability to contribute to shaping the strategic direction of Trimble projects and aligning them with overall business objectives;

Leadership experience in managing and mentoring engineering teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture;

Proven ability to make resource-driven decisions, aligning departmental plans with business and organizational priorities.

Qualifications & Experience

Expected work experience: 7+ years;

BSc/MSc. in Computer Engineering or an equivalent degree with a good score;

May have to manage a team of 5-10 members;
