Hyatt Centric Murano Venice is seeking a passionate, hands-on Engineering Manager to oversee our hotel's maintenance operations and ensure the highest standards of quality and efficiency while growing and developing within the hotel industry
Responsibilities
· Supervises the repair, maintenance and engineering operations according to the departmental standards.
· Coordinate and direct new projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
· Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
· Properly handles and maintains all power tools.
· Assists other tradespersons or technicians when requested by superiors.
· Reads and assess the utility and equipment log reports and if found necessary takes appropriate corrective action in consultation with GM.
· Keeps a close inventory of engineering stores and maintains required inventory of essential parts to ensure smooth operations.
· Monitors closely the fuel consumption pattern and stock levels and takes corrective measures.
· Take responsibility for the cleanliness and safety aspects of all plant and mechanical equipment rooms.
· On a daily basis goes through logs of the briefings and de-briefings made by Team leaders and advices accordingly.
· Creates a monthly plan for training in coordination with training manager.
· Train engineering department staff on correct maintenance procedures and assists in repairs as needed.
· Modifies installations to minimize waste of material and provide access for future maintenance.
· Avoids unsightly hazards and complies with all local regulations and codes.
· Ensures cleanliness of all work areas and protects the surroundings when executing duties.
· Performs repairs and maintenance work to all guest rooms, public and service areas of the hotel to ensure they are well maintained.
· Regularly inspects the entire building with particular attention on defective or deficient life safety features and to observe closely the condition of all operating equipment. Specific attention must be placed on areas of difficult access.
· Executes Effective Management of Preventive Maintenance Programme.
· Develop, implement and manage energy conservation programs for the property to minimize expenses.
· Ensures effective energy conservation measures in areas of operations.
· Ensures fire, life and safety systems are operational.
· Ensures effective service recovery pertaining to guests’ feedback.
· Reviews and approves all invoices and Purchase Requests involving Technical Services and installations, machinery, parts and audio visual equipment etc.
· Assists in ensuring that the property, its systems and the operational procedures comply with all the prevailing local and national codes, notifying the General Manager of non-compliance, if any.
· Works closely with other Department Heads in a supportive and flexible manner, focusing on the overall success of the hotel and the satisfaction of hotel guests.
· Makes sure that Engineering employees work in a supportive and flexible manner with other departments, in a spirit of “We work through Teams”.
· Attend all Green Team Meet/Facility Management/Property meetings as required, passing on necessary information to the engineering team.
Financial
· Assists to proactively manage costs based on key performance indicators while still delivering the brand promise to the guest.
· Assists to maximize employee productivity through the use of multi-skilling, multi-tasking and flexible scheduling to meet the financial goals of the business as well as the expectations of the guests.
· Ensures that all hotel, company and local rules, policies and regulations relating to financial record keeping, money handling and licensing are adhered to, including the timely and accurate reporting of financial information.
Personnel
· Assists to oversee the punctuality and appearance of all Engineering employees, making sure that they wear the correct uniform and maintain a high standard of personal appearance and hygiene, according to the hotel and department’s grooming standards.
· Maximize engineering team’s potential with a balanced focus on operations, guests, employee and owners satisfaction.
· Assists employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
· Assists to maximize the effectiveness of engineering employees by developing each of their skills and abilities through the appropriate training, coaching, and/or mentoring.
· Implement new ideas and methods and continue to seek ways of both improving contribution to the organization's goals.
· Conducts annual Performance Development Discussions and supports them in their professional development goals.
· Encourages employees to be creative and innovative, challenging and recognizing them for their contribution to the success of the operation.
· Supports reinforcement of Hyatt’s Values.
· Ensures that all employees have a complete understanding of and adhere to employee rules and regulations.
· Ensures that employees follow all hotel, company and local rules, policies and regulations relating to fire and hazard safety, and security.
· Assists to feedback the results of the Employee Opinion Survey and to ensure that the relevant changes are implemented.
Administration
· Assists to ensure that the Engineering activities are aligned with the Engineering Corporate Strategy, and that the Hotel Actions have been implemented where appropriate.
· Represents the Engineering function on the hotel's Executive Committee.
· Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, analyzing expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
· Conducts regular departmental communications briefings and meetings.
· Ensure proper records are kept relating to all plant and equipment for the hotel including repair and service records.
· Prepare reports as required by the General Manager.
· Conduct regular Inspections
· Discuss with General Manager / Owner on maintenance status and inspection reports.
