About the role

As an Engineering Manager at Irwin and reporting directly to the Head of Irwin Engineering, you will lead 4 product engineering triads that are responsible for delivering new product features and feature enhancements for the Irwin web and mobile apps. You will be expected to use your experience and skills across technology, process and people leadership to continuously improve how we work together and deliver value for the business and our customers. 

Our technology: Irwin is powered by several key technologies. Our toolkit is primarily Ruby on Rails with REST powered APIs, and our web/mobile front-ends are React and ReactNative with Typescript. We use https://eventide-project.org for building Distributed Systems components using Event Sourcing and PUB/SUB messaging patterns. We expect engineers to have proficiency in one or more of these areas. Most engineers are expected to be able to cross technical domains and contribute to both the back-end and front-end as needs ariseYour work will matter: You will be responsible to your teams and their stakeholders. You will need to maintain solid relationships with the Research, Product Management, Design, and Security & Compliance teams. You will work to keep team morale and productivity high, providing a viable career path to everyone on your team. To excel at Irwin as an Engineering Manager, you should:

Be a visionary, consistently pushing boundaries with emerging technologies, platforms, and frameworks.Possess a deep well of experience, with over 10 years in Agile software development roles, preferably in rapid-growth and highly adaptive environments.Experience facilitating system design and software architecture discussions, driving best practices and setting standards.Uphold the highest standards of coding and code reviews, ensuring clarity, conciseness, and robust testing.Lead by example, fostering a culture of open, honest communication and collaboration.Be a mentor and guide in addition to being a manager, elevating the skills and capabilities of junior and senior team members. Contribute to technical strategy and vision, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution.Advocate for and represent the team's perspective in strategic discussions and decisions.
